While not particularly supportive, it's a sign of someone you can trust in what they say.
Drama over their kid's future. Never the kid's fault. I can see both parents' views, though. Kids doing what they want is important, but so is getting an education. Or like it usually is, a paper saying you completed it.
Getting divorced before it gets too bad so they can remain on good terms is a great thing, though, in the light of a divorce. Happened to my parents. It gives you an understanding that sometimes it's better to let go of things, and that it's never black or white.
It doesn't count as protecting each other, I think, but it does count as protecting their child.
That it was him who was the other target of the "scandal" was expected.
