In the start the 24/7 will probably be the most important requirement, followed by the bandwidth.

If there are more and more servers the load will spread more - thus each server will only get a little bit of needed bandwidth.
But thinking about the high-res. images anything below 10Mbit is probably to slow to ensure a good reading-progress without having to wait too long for the download.

And having 24/7 ensures a good start for the project, testing the system etc. without having to look if the system is offline again or not.

Can I prepare and host this on a GUI-less Ubuntu server? Or is it a Windows-bound program with GUI? A few screenshots and an installation guide would help.

i.e. how much does it resemble H@H? Can I use their wiki to get a rough idea of how it'll be?

I'm thinking about renting a server, and the difference between Ubuntu and Windows is more than 2 times, so gotta know the actual requirements.

It's an java client, you doesn't need GUI it's just a jar file with one json config file.
You can prepare server with Java client inside, you can also use docker like this : docker run --restart=always --name=mangadex -d -v LOCALDIRWITHJAR:/app -p 44300:44300 -w /app openjdk:11.0.7-jre java -jar /app/mangadex_at_home-1.0.0-rc3-all.jar

@firelight
You can disable it here : https://mangadex.org/md_at_home/options

Finally! This is all I have been waiting for!

My request #117 is located in Singapore, under a DigitalOcean proxy that serves from my physical server. I'm ready to serve up a nice dosage of weeb!

@firelight

You will be able to switch it off during the beta phase. Once all the issues are ironed out, and we have a healthy number of clients, the option to switch off will be removed and everyone will use MD@H.

Can Home clients easily see what images they are hosting and potentially what manga it's for? It might be interesting to scroll through the images on disk.

You guys should probably mention in the OP that the client is Java and will run headless, as I had to dig through a lot of comments to figure out if I could run it on my Linux server or not.

Since MD already accepts donations with BTC, have you looked into accepting contributions through BAT (basic attention tokens) through Brave Browser? I've only started using it myself but it lets users accrue currency through their non-obtrusive ads which they can use to support sites and other content creators. If feasible I would think it would bring in a fair bit because users wouldn't have to pay out of pocket and it'd mitigate the barrier of dealing with BTC which not everyone is familiar or comfortable with.

Pity, I have a 400GB SAS SSD that is not doing anything, but my home connection does not meet the requirements. Good luck.

I’ve been looking at hosting options and I’m wondering what the CPU and ram requirements may be...

@N0Mi0

Will be relaxed at a later date. See my other posts for details.

And what creatix said about the GUIless :x

@MantaKawa

Already rejected that idea several times. They want too much information from us iirc.

@takosama

Still figuring that out :D

Shoot that sucks. I'd read about some people making use of it but I guess the promise of 'free money' was too good to be true. All the best!

@ixlone let me know down the line if it can run on a RasPi. I can sneak some into friends houses and they’ll never know it’s there.
Also I got my hands on the 8gb model so I can run some tests for you if you want.

I second the call for BAT.
Also, the reason BTC (and ETH to a lesser extent) donation are going down is that that the transaction fees go up during high volume (the recent halvening and market fluctuations), which is why the ask to to support other coins designed for high volume online transactions like BAT or BCH, etc.

I have a fiber connection and am setting up my own server atm, so will set aside some space for MD when I'm done. =D

Please be patient with approvals - the bottleneck right now is ssl certificate generation. We have gone through the premade batch, and now we can only make 1 ssl cert every 3 hours.

But it's going very well, a log of bugs have been ironed out since launch - we're currently on the RC5.

So this explains why older chapters simply fail to load.
Here's hoping things will start working again soon. Keep up the good work. 🙂
