Im reasonably certain that when you "respawn" you have a choice to rise out of the ground. So humans above ground turn into zombies and humans belowground are buried if they decide not to try

If they use this for his own character growth to really aclimate to the world and how bad it is, I think it will be a good move. If he can kill her for her to come back, he can kill others for him to reach the top. I hope they do it like that instead of him staying like a lil bish (though understandable tbh)

But the respawn location is random so it's gonna be hard to meet each other again plus they also lose a part of their soul every time they die
