I think the fighting tournament has been hinting at the way forward. Other than further surgery/flesh sculpting, taking advantage of the enderization, or the fact that they're technically not human anymore to go way beyond their limits is what they'll need to do in order to advance.

Guys at least as strong as them tried going up the mountain and became end-men, so I imagine the peak is covered in extremely powerful end-men and with each new climber it gets more and more impossible. Maybe the only way is to build a rocket and fly lol.
