Guys at least as strong as them tried going up the mountain and became end-men, so I imagine the peak is covered in extremely powerful end-men and with each new climber it gets more and more impossible. Maybe the only way is to build a rocket and fly lol.

I believe this manga is going to be some kind of controlling an army if there's just so many muscleheads to spare. They even have iron and technology. Why would a few random people who have better will power can reach the peak. It's just so ridiculous i'd rather go back behind the gate and live peacefully. Who cares about the daughter. If people in this manga actually think ahead they'll realize that everyone dies anyway and go in this hell and it's just a temporary pleasure to go back for a few years in the human world.

I like to think that it just used to be relatively easy (at least compared to now), and Tatsuhachi becoming an endman represents the status quo changing with the old generation dying out. Now you have to play by this system built by Kou that makes it harder for everyone. The idea that the old generation had it better but now everyone has to tear each other apart in a rat race.

You can't just hike to the top with just smarts and combat skill, you have to become a body horror nightmare if you want even the chance of competing with anyone else.
