At chapter 16, I realized something; this is one of those beginner/introductory series for despair-jacking, the overly edgy stories where it's constantly baiting a normie into becoming badass. Most of us are kinda experienced in this already, so it's just fun to rag on it

Basically it's dark souls. There's more to it than that but if you at least know the basic premise of dark souls then you'll probably like this story. It even kinda plays out like someone's playthrough of the game as well.

The art is nice, monster designs while grotesque are visually very clear. Same for the action in general, there's no trying to figure out what you're looking at.

It's a messed up world but you can understand why people act the way they do even when it's very evil. The mc is flawed but relatable and the story will him punish for those flaws. There is some power creep later on but it does make sense why.

Also I really appreciate that the author will take the time to explain any possible questions/plot holes the reader may come across, with explanations that make sense even if it is kinda of an exposition dump at times.

I'd say it's worth checking out.

alot. they would be a poor "moral beacon" protagonist if they bent under a few times.
its all about the hero's journey, you can't skip to the finish line that quick

hate to be the bearer of bad news but this world clearly has vegetation. even if it isnt the most nutritious supplementing your diet with boiled tree bark and making a 'human-meat' soup mixed with cooked tree leaves and grass would minimize the amount you need to eat people

I hate to bear worse news, but there's no guarantee that the vegetation there is even remotely edible (like oak leaves being poisonous to eat) and considering the fact that the more experienced members didn't even bother to try, its likely that at bare minimum they don't posses any caloric value. That is if your body even requires nutrients, instead of soul essence.

Naw man. I choose life, I still got work to do, and there's no guarantee that what's waiting for you on the other side will be any better. No telling where that boat leads. Instead of being stuck in purgatory, you could end up in the basement if you know what I mean. And in all fairness, I wouldn't trust them anyways. If they're a god of death then they are likely just trying to avoid unnecessary paperwork. Its like trying to get a customer out of the store at closing time.

But I've been cursed with the indomitable human spirit and already suffered plenty here on earth, so I don't really have any choice in the matter. I've still got work to do.

your assuming things the manga doesnt say. im pointing out a hole and your imagining things that can fill it in, that doesnt mean the hole isnt there
unless the manga explains that itself later on then it just looks like an oversight

naw, think of it as getting new gear. After all without access to anything beyond sharpened sticks what other tools are there to use beyond flesh?
And how would you expect somebody to fight a deeper level endman without becoming monsters themselves? I feel like it adds even more thematic elements by showing just how brutal things are in this purgatorial dimension, and how little by little one is forced to strip their humanity to survive, not just mentally but also their body as well.
If this going in the allegorical direction I think it is, it makes sense that the deeper somebody goes into this hell the greater the sinners they may encounter who become less and less innocent.
