I had a few female friends around that age and ended up in his exact same situation going to one of their birthday parties one year. That feeling of isolation is so true, but fortunately there was a SNES and we all played a metric ton of Mario Kart so the feeling quickly faded.

@Renan_Walheim I'm actually surprised she hadn't invited Tsubasa. But I know why it didn't happen, the entire premise of him feeling isolated wouldn't have worked, since Tsubasa comes off as more of a boy to the boys.

Wow. The awkward atmosphere was done so well it might have been DONE too well. Reading that chapter was a pain.
Anyway, yeah, been there done that. For me it was a cousin. My parents forced me to go to her birthday so they had an excuse to spend some time without me (they were good parents, trust me) and it was completely awful. You just sit there feeling terrible.

I remember the time I was among a group of girls and I was the only guy.
Throw in a few jokes, lead the conversation, everything will be alright eventually.
It might be hard for a few people but just remember that the first impression matters here. If there's even a slight bit of awkwardness at the start, everything is ruined. Just be relaxed, if you can make yourself look comfortable then you'll have a lot of chances to join in naturally later.
