Just because he could stand toe to toe against the Demon King doesn't mean that he's automatically invincible; for all we know, Risu could sense that Hiya is not just stronger than herself but also so strong that she eclipses the Demon King and anything else she's seen her husband handle.

And in the end, Fulio is Risu's husband. It's commonly known that one of the marks of a good spouse is unhesitating self-sacrifice to protect the one they're married to, and that's what Risu did. It's called "logical character behavior".
