If he didn't care, then he wouldn't have to listen to the demons and just continued being the demon lord by force turning his rule into tyranny.
I hope manga does not adapat the part were blond hero and his heroine is still causing troubles every fucking arc. It really annoys me that they always have to do with what's happening every arc in the WN and I dropped it eventually because their inclusion gradually became annoying.

But didn't he just surrender his title to an irresponsible person though ?
He must know that this "New Demon Lord" is incompetent right ? Which means he abdicated knowing full well that his people would be driven to destruction with an incapable leader.
=> Isn't that tantamount the same as him saying : "You don't want me around anymore and you want to die so bad you'd choose this muscle brain over me? Fine, dig your own grave ! I'm out."
From my point of view, this is kind of what I can make out of his decision here.

More like, he's been doing what he thinks is the best for his people (not going up against that OP mc when he knows it will just result in unnecessary sacrifices) but he did lack a means of properly telling his thoughts to those 3(coz fengaril already ded) so they were also left in the dark. (Though one can argue that all they need to do is just follow the demon lord's wishes, it's not their place to question his leadership but the lack of communication surely played a role in their dissatisfaction). So doing all that and still them thinking like that behind his back, he prolly got fed up and just relinquished the throne (since another bloodbath might come about if there are still dissatisfied parties with the result). Not to mention he enjoys meeting up with the mc, and the mc being casual, not minding his status.
at least on the last page fenris was enjoying barirossa's suffering since she's aware that her man's a great catch and who knows what might happen in the future, with them living under the same roof.. also, you dont need to spoiler since i know
Based on Gaeul's comments, it looks like the current size of demon territory is actually the target? At least at this point in the projected timeline. So it's not like he was really underperforming either.
...the heavenly kings are contractually obligated to remain statues until the duel is completed, but the duel didn't happen. Are they furniture now?
