I feel bad for this guy. First, he was cucked, and now he will only be a replacement for that girl's husband
You should put down the NTR porn for a bit.Looking at these comments and rereading this chapter it made me think how this is one of the weirdest romance mangas ever written I dont want to beat a dead horse but it really does feel cuckish: like an amalgamation of cheating and cucking. instead of the what you expect from a romance manga where the male lead and female lead get to know each other and eventually learn to love each other later down the line its the female lead sulking over a dead ex and the male lead likes the female lead but she doesnt shes still not over her ex and the male lead is a cope for her ex. It feels like cheating on the deceased husbands part because his life was taken away from him and she sees male mc as him and it feels like cucking because female mc is just seeing her deceased husband in male mc she doesnt like him its just a cope for her. now i know it makes sense since cuz shes drunk and all but im viewing it from a meta-perspective, like im placed in the author shoes and im making writing decisions anyway it does intrigue me to keep reading this and i like the fan service too, thank you for the translation
I dont deny that there is elements of grief, I agree with ur synopsis about grief and them overcoming it, but I feel like you're undermining the romance aspect of it. This series is advertised as a romance and its a HUGE deal for the appeal of this manga hence why it plays off of the trope gyaru x otaku which is a romance trope, its in part why people are focusing on tsubaki's past relationship. Its not about otakei being 'owed' a relationship, these arent real people they are fictional characters. It's about your expectations being met. It is expected that tsubaki and otakei will be together at some point in the story because its a romance manga. And for a romance this writing is very questionable. The author writing a mc having a past lover and then make her project that past lover on the one who she will be with is just not something that would give readers a 'sound of mind'. Of course they would be upset about this because its a romance between mmc and fmc and adding a third wheel fmc has to overcome adds onto that. I dont think im reaching when I said tsubaki is using him as a cope, thats a valid intepretation the author could very well shut down that intepretation if he wanted to, but hes literally giving us breadcrumbs. my intepretation is that tsubaki is coping about her ex while drinking, and she sees him in otakei, you can very well conclude that shes just imagining otakei being him, that fits the role of him just being the 'second-choice' and a replacement for her ex. If it wasnt a romance then it prob wouldnt be a problem for most people complaining here. Or at least if it was a romance between otakei and someone else (like the female mangaka for example) and not tsubaki. we simply dont have enough information and because of that its very valid for people to have these conclusions. Also from ur reply it seems like u dont deny the 'cuck vibes' ur just saying that its more than the romance and to not focus on itYou should put down the NTR porn for a bit.
Real life is actually very complex when it comes to relationships and this isn't even that out of pocket, even in fiction. Tsubaki is grieving her lost relationship when she stumbled into someone she knew and was fairly close to in high school, only to find that Otakei is also at a crossroads in his life as he drifts through the days lamenting his failure at becoming a full-on mangaka. They both have heavy weights they're carrying, and have been struggling along each on their own (as it would seem) before running into one another after years of separate paths.
This is more than just a romance story, and they're both adults and not school kids. The themes are grief and overcoming that grief, and they take different forms for the two main characters--Otakei with his failed author career, and Tsubaki with the death of her husband and the apparent tension with her former in-laws, and both of them are rather aimless at the present--but are both now in the process of taking steps toward the future again.
They were close before, and that point of connection along with circumstances has them reentering one another's orbit. Of course things are different in the present, but you're reaching a lot in saying Tsubaki is using Otakei as "cope" over her dead husband. He's not "her second choice", any more than he's owed a relationship with her. They're two people who have gone and are going through shit, and this will be a story of seeing where and when and how they persevere through it and overcome the obstacles before them.
I knew the Deus vult children would take this chapter poorlyYep, used goods is using him as a backup option. Mc really deserves better than being second best.
I will agree with this if this manga has the endgame like Himaten!.You should put down the NTR porn for a bit.

Have you seen the author's pixiv account...?you can just say "hentai"
And non-R-18 tends to sell more broadly so I don't see why the author would hamstring their revenue stream just to satisfy the gooner minority.
Bruh, you are trying to explain complex human interactions to a person, who prolly thinks real life is like one they see in the manga. You should put down the NTR porn for a bit.
