Oh totally agree on the contractual aspect. Just thinking of the aspect of a series that simply drops adaptation entirely. The notion that you cease working on the manga adaptation rather than seeking to compete the work they put that effort into is also rather sad as well. If I had a passion project I was doing I'd be sincerely glad if a friend sought to complete/bring it fruition after I died.

Its simply a difference in how they view the best way to be respectful in those cases where in the East they leave it "untouched" by others where maybe Westerners are more driven to complete as best they can (Silmarillion being compiled by Tolkien's son to give people a large collection of all the lord around the rings/Middle Earth comes to mind). Its unfortunate that almost each time I've heard of an artist dying, their works simply get dropped.

With Akira Toriyama in particular, there's just such a global audience for Dragonball with so much goodwill with fans (how many popular series exist with so little negativity as Dragonball? Can't think of any.) that it's going to be completed as best they can, and it feels like an anomaly. Most manga/adaptations seem to just get cancelled upon an artist death.

I genuinely hope the artist lives as fulfilling a time as they have left, and doesn't feel burdened by those seeking more, as this work is genuinely enjoyable. I think it might be the third series ever I'm interested in reading the novel version of, and I definitely wasn't expecting that from an Ecchi game parodying/doing a different take of the isekai into a porn game concept.

The Reincarnated MC is pretty cool imo as a character, and the magic fabric as a weapon is definitely out of the box for sure. He's actually relatable without being too over the top slapstick that the genre seems to be excessive with.
I agree with all your points especially the fourth and fifth paragraphs.

The artist should definitely be given more leeway for his work.

The MC is interesting as well since aside from his style of fighting, MC was meant to be the "bro" character. As well.

Many of us wish we got more out of this series but from these circumstances. I'm sure we're all happy with what we are getting.

Yeah. I just hope that should this terminal illness happen as has been said that they don't axe it. Just feels so unfortunate to not seek continuing a work someone who wanted to keep working on it even when terminally ill. I hope there is someone close in their life, like a colleague who would carry the project on. I've read about how so many connections are made by artists/writers at Comiket each year and the way so many creators in Japan make.

One of the best things about JP creators in the non-H scene is how genuine creators are, so I hope they have a good group of friends to be there for them in this time.
(By H, I mean like literal porn, the H-art scene in Japan is even greedier than in the West, its actually insane how they'll totally do a and 180 change a multi-part story thinking they might make more sales, not to mention how so many rely on using existing characters, instead of original content...let alone how copypasta the stories have gotten in most of the ones that actually have them, theyre even more boring/predicable than how repetitive isekai harems are in non-porn works lol)

But yeah, I like the concept of this work. Although I hope his efforts do really pay off. The generic "real MC" being OP trope gets a bit old. I'd like this plot of him changing the story and becoming/growing into the real MC more. These villain/not the isekaid book/game's MC having and a OP "protagonist" gets a bit old. I see it a lot in the "villianess" type works where the "protagonist" is overpowered and/or another (bad) reincarnator. It implies they're "stronger" but without a player controlling THEM, they won't be. I'd love to see that aspect played into in a story for once.

Having them not controlled by an actual player and a bit incompetent/robotic so protagonists can outclass them by effort/being normal is way better in my sincere opinion.
