Or just extremely overworked to the point of burnout.
I don't think so the series was always monthly. If I had to guess as the hiatus started right when the anime got super popular the author could have just gone into shock with all the new positive and negative attention this previously relatively unknow series was getting.

My guess is that the author is out of ideas so it take a long break to rethink how to continue the story, this is ok for me, the less pressure the better.

The hiatus is due to the authors poor health but they're recovering. It has nothing to do with the anime.
I mean think about it it creates more jobs and more attention to the manga that has the finished story. Not every yuri anime gets a second season. I haven’t seen any that do. The fact this one is is a good sign. It’s way to promote the author, bringing on new voice actors, and increase manga sales.

That would be a horrible reason to be on hiatus.
If that would have been the case I would gladly cancel anime adaptation for more manga.
That is a common reason though for many Series going into hiatus because of Anime project.
Because the Author becomes too busy to handle working on both Anime & Manga projects.

As for whether i would want Anime adaptation over Manga, depends on how well it is adapted.
And in case of this Series, i really wouldn't mind a delay in Manga if we get a good Anime adaptation (Season 1 was overall good especially except some minor issues)

dude I hate it sm if the manga is on hiatus because the author is busy with the anime ss2 adaptation, at this point I wish they’d just cancel the anime
