i'd like it if the 20 zombies with longbows plan failed because alice, beeing a bookworm, hadn't accounted for how strong a person has to be in order to use a longbow and thus wouldn't know that zombies simply wouldn't be able to draw them. least of all what appears to be the corpses of random civilians.

That's not a fair comparison; LN artists typically draw one character or scene in great detail while manga does the whole story and they do not have the luxury to spend infinite time to meet the same level of quality. Plus, that art is the main draw for a LN. That's like comparing the cover art to the manga panels.
