From what I remember it was more so the consequences of his actions that if I’m remembering correctly not revealing his emotions and being okay with losing her down the line he caused pain not only for her but also for his friends their family and also to himself. As the entire reason she got with someone else was to have an heir even without any love being involved with the making of that child. Thus it’s not ntr it’s meant to show by not being comfortable with the inevitable he will cause even more pain for everyone.
