It's like he is watching the world through a screen or something
Also, inb4 they are siblings lol

He might be adopted, for some reason the way he spoke about his father and his mother felt pretty detached.Kimura’s pops either cheated and hid it from or slimed out the mom and lied, “nah lil ngga she left us for a lawyer or brain surgeon she was fucking with” 😭
I do think that's the most likely situation but I think it'd be a bit too on the nose, I'd prefer it if it was a bit less direct. It's a bit dark but my guess is that Kimura's mother was a losing heroine. She tried to make it work with his dad, but she couldn't move on from the memory of her first love. In the end, it got too painful for both of Kimura's parents to remain together so they decided to split amicably. Kimura's mother wasn't abusive to him but her lingering attachments to her first love made him subconsciously wonder if he has the right to be on this planet. I think Kimura sees Manaka's situation as an opportunity of sorts to prevent anyone from being born in the same situation as him, make the losing heroine win so she won't have to be with someone she's not completely happy with.
God if this turns out to be an actually good version of "The girl I saved on the train was my childhood friend" I will be a happy angry. Happy because its good. Angry because I had to be reminded of that steaming pile of shit known masquerading as a romcom. It's a bit dark but my guess is that Kimura's mother was a losing heroine. The plot thickens and goes a way I wasn't expecting to.
I actually find it refreshing wpikd be interesting to know more of his backstory.
It's so fucking good, that scene from chapter 10 where he refused to carve his names on the table with them (despite them ALL wanting him to) was so telling. He can't even accept normal friendship let alone love. It's so easy to forget that this guy isn't isekai'd, he lives here. He had a life, he has a family, and yet he has this mindset where he entirely depersonalizes himself and has latched onto the love triangle of 3 random people in his class while acting like it's the center of the universe
Objectively, he's fucking weird and a bit crazy
