it's sort of amusing and I see many people really like it, but I can't help feeling the original setup was more interesting :aquadrink:

by now Kimura is everything that Ei-kun originally was in the setting with all the dumb events and such, and the seemingly only dynamic remaining to the cast is to revolve around him. Thus the only novel take on the genre clichés anymore is that the characters are more confused than a homeless man on a house arrest

there's only so far that can go before grating (at least on me), but let's see
Speaking personally, I love both setups, the original is a breath of fresh air, and this is too. I would love to see the "childhood friend x buddy whose trying to set her up with the MC" done in a more straightforward manner one day. But for now, I love how this series is so unafraid to get weird with it

Thanks for the chapter.

Goodness, this is going on wild tangents

If I had a nickel for every series that Skythewood has worked that's about supporting a losing heroine and has 8 chapters translated, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

This is an amusing manga and I do enjoy reading it, but I'd say that beyond being amusing, it needed an emotional core and a central relationship to set itself up, and at this point I don't feel like it's accomplished that. What relationship exactly is the audience supposed to root for?
Hasn't it basically been Kawashima x Kimura from day one?

Kimura might be a lot denser than his trope-aware arse has any right to be, but he's selflessly supported Kawashima from day one. The first arc was about how she's slowly warming up to him, with the current arc being about her finally realizing this.

While Kimura might have blown her off here, note the final page. There's a reason why Kimura noticed and obsesses over 'the losing heroine'. He's been in love with her from day one, but cannot think of himself in a romantic context. With confession in hand, it is now his turn to finally realize his own feelings and unpack his self-worth issues.

Probably
