This used to be how it worked, and for some reason it changed a bit ago.

I did also find this bug report on the change:
https://forums.mangadex.org/threads...-chapter-instead-of-the-chapter-list.1377202/

I’ll find myself doing a advanced search, finding a series, reading 30 chapters and then going “now I wanna return to that search and find another series.” So I have to hit the back button 31 times to get there. It used to just go back to the chapter list if you hit back, and I’m not sure why it changed.

It’s just a small QOL thing, but even if it was a setting that would be a godsend.

Open a manga chapter, click on the settings button (site settings and reader settings have different menus, so you have a manga/reader open to get the right settings), click "behaviors", and change the "Reader history mode".

I prefer the top option, it keeps your history from filling up with lists of every single chapter you read, and it would also make it so pushing the browser's back button bring you right back to the previous manga/search instead of just going to the previous chapter.

Hrmm it doesn’t seem to work for me, it’s not a option on the PWA version of the app for some reason, but I was able to go to the option on desktop and have it carry over. The issue is that now it takes the same amount of back clicks to go back to the main page, but instead of going back a chapter it just says on the same one (ie chapter 1-6 backwards would be (6,6,6,6,6,6,main-page)) compared to (6,5,4,3,2,1,main-page).

It’s so close to working but idk why it seems to have weird functionality for me.

I tried the top and bottom option with the same result.

I'm not sure what you mean, as there is no mangadex app.
Ah sorry I meant like the PWA, as it’s app-like and includes app in the name. (Progressive Web App)

It’s when you save an app to your Home Screen on iOS / android, websites can have code to handle this, and change it to be more-app like, despite being a website.

MangaDex moves some buttons when doing this, and makes it a more app like experience.
