Rather than an actually tied hands compliance, this feels more like a personal vendetta decision by the team because "we can't advertise the website properly because this icky gross stuff is available". Nothing on this website outside of the redirects from official distributors is compliant, it's 99.9% piracy. Make an alt site called either Mangasex, Mangadex After Dark or something else to host the NSFW content while being connected to the main site. It's only accessible with a Mangadex Account with a certain amount of use and activity and hidden from search engines with a 403 forbidden, there is also no direct link from the main site or on the forum.
All non-advertiser friendly stuff goes there, and the main site stays clean and pristine like the devs seemingly want.

Edit: It's also worth mentioning that people in their 20s or even 30s often play minors (like high school students) in live action entertainment with sex scenes. Despite the age of the actors and actresses, these shows and movies "depict sexual activity between characters that are minors". I recently saw this drama from a mutual on X and had to come back here after not using this site for ages. Just came here to laugh at the tourist mod who can't distinguish fiction from reality and anybody sharing the same dumb take and defending censorship. Unbelievably funny that a piracy site decided to nuke itself by hiring stupid mods that became anime fans post-covid.
