10-fold is actually sensible number, blacksmith usually only does around a dozen.
Just folding 11 times you get 1024 layers (2^10), but people seem to mistake that Japanese katana was fold 1000 times lol. Folding too much will make the steel homogeneous and totally defeat the purpose.
