while I personally only watched the original when it came out, I fell behind on what came out years later and am too lazy to catch up....
Though you’d be surprised by how many people absolutely hate and blindly boycott anything having to do with the Fate series
So although I might vaguely remember it’s name showing up in other shows, As they stated, excalibur is just a lot more generic and easier for people to identify.... though given the context, they could have put literally anything and we would have understood

Any chuunibyou weeaboo or avid RPG fan worth their salt knows what Gae Bolg is. I learned of it from Final Fantasy years before I found out about Fate, or Cu's actual lore. Even One Piece has a "Gaebolg".

If you're gonna say Excalibur's easier to identify, you might as well change it "spear" or "sword".

More relevant and useful than personal experience at least. Google related stuff though, that's more towards the general knowledge of everyone ever vs the general knowledge of manga readers. I think the better statistic to work with here is how often these things are mentioned in Japanese entertainment media in particular. Excalibur is probably still the winner even then, but that slightly more specific information would probably suit this situation better than a look at the more general scope of things. I just feel like having Joe Schmoe who's never even opened a fantasy novel in their entire life and Weeb McGee, who consumes content with a menagerie of references to these sorts of things more often than they leave the house is kind of diluting things a bit.

I don't really care what legendary weapon name gets used either way myself though, the meaning was still clear. "Oh, he's talking about his penis. I get it." That's all we really need here, if the translator thought Excalibur was better suited to that then I'm cool with it as long as it still gets that across.

I keep seeing people bring up how bad the Arifureta adaption is. Just how fucking bad could it possibly be? Like... Between Master of Ragnarok (absolute bottom) and How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (top tier of objective trash isekai), how bad is it really?

Guess what fam, the best worst Isekai list has been updated, Isekai Cheat Magician is the new absolute bottom, with Magus' Grandchild one level higher than Master of Ragnarök & Blesser of Einherjar.

And imo, Arifureta's adaptation was at least somewhat better than all those 3.
The CGI really fucked it up for me.
The harem was the most ridiculous thing though, but oh well.
