Great chapter, and I agree that you did a great job typesetting their inner thoughts. I love Kiriyama being depicted like a dog when he plays shogi, it's such a nice contrast to the sad, repressed person we saw at the beginning of the series.

I think we're being set up for Shimada to lose, but I hope it'll be a tough match that pushes Kiriyama's limits.

When my dog thinks she is going for a walk her little curved fluffy tail goes back and forth and she starts top dancing with her front paws. I could just picture Rei doing that. This is going to be a fun match. I hope he beats Shimada this time.

I am unsure if Shimadda will win this time. He was late and apparently; he is having the worst luck. Kiriyama must have been in shock as to Shimaddas appearance.

That's a lot of penalty, how much time he have now? This wont end with him getting time out or something right?
It depends on the player, some players actually thrives in time limited matches, strong enough to move fast and give the opponent less time to think, with enough persistence they can catch up and even surpass the time penalty given to them without compromising on a strong mid to endgame position

I like how Shimada actually able to win effortlessly, but decided to teach Kiriyama a new play style that he never expected to come before.

Continuing to be amused at Rei being depicted as a Jack Russel Terrier with boundless energy of late. Shimada is reining it in, though. Teaching his junior some patience, I suppose, but that expression at the end... haha...

Shimada really does want to give the boy some humility against that newfound enthusiasm and bliss with rediscovering his love of shogi and solidifying his love for his beau. Shimada is a jaded older man who thinks you have to give your all to the game, but, narratively-speaking... Rei is bound to win out because he has so much better a mental state. That's just how this sort of stuff works out, I feel- the one that has found and nurtures love becomes the strongest.

It's not like Rei's been any less studious, after all. He just finds more joy in the breaks he takes from his studies, which results in a much more enriched life. Something Shimada has overlooked in his quest for a title.

Oh yeah, also, PSA that I've been adding to some of these comment threads... When Volume 18 comes out, this chapter will be shifted as it is replaced with the Volume 18 version of Chapter 207, and this chapter's contents is moved to where it belongs in Volume 18, somewhere around 6 or 7 chapters back.
