When your whole family is made up of top global players, and you’ve spent your entire life surrounded by them without ever seeing the outside world, be like:
Sounds about right, given this ends about halfway through the raw's unsplit chapter 1.I wonder how many parts the translation group will split chapter 1 into, i'm guessing four
You don't know how much people can be sheltered even in the real world.I'm already annoyed. Calling it a rigged match and someone holding back is just straight up insulting. With his personality and demeanor I was thinking the MC would be cunning in battle and use his knowledge of magic to defeat a mage with precision attacks. Like he could tell what was going to be used from the energy gathered and knew exactly what it's range is so he moves himself slightly to get out of range and go for the mage's blindspot to take them down. Or he works with his allies and gives someone else instructions. Like he's impressive and skilled, but it is a challenge because he doesn't have magic. The corps have to accept him but many don't like his untraditional ways of contributing, so he has to gain their trust. This was just straight up obviously OP. Like bruh. You broke down her spell, absorbed her magic, and then sent a more powerful attack with better control back at her. That's called being stronger than someone.
So what instantly breaks this all for me is that the MC's father has already been shown to praise him a lot, and we know that offscreen the father knows that he can do this stuff because he bragged about it leading to this situation. So where does the MC really come off thinking he's weak? Yeah he's sheltered, but he should also know that his family is full of famous powerful mages with tons of acclaim. In fact he does know that because he complained about disappointing them already too. If he fought with them and did this stuff at all and they praised him then he should have some sense that he's actually far beyond compotent. Like what? He thinks he's weak because his dad and grand dad and older brother are stronger than him? Wtf? Yeah of course they'd be. You're younger and have less experience in the field. Growing up I didn't think I was stupid because my older siblings in higher grades learning and doing more complex stuff were in higher grades learning and doing more complex stuff.
This setup might work for someone that's been bullied by their family all of their life and constantly shunned or told that their efforts weren't enough. We've already seen just the opposite. The MC acts annoyed with his dad and jumps to the conclusion that everything would be rigged before acknowledging his own hard work and skills (and as he doesn't have magic this would all have to be HIS own hardwork in learning about magic and how to manipulate it; unless it's revealed to be some special innate talent). Grow up in a family of legends on the battlefield, constantly work hard toward learning more about magic, and get praised for your hard work by at least your dad = "I'm a loser and the only reason this is easy is because it's rigged." 😕 Dude, just GTFO. That poor woman tried her absolute best and you just insulted her in front of everyone because of your own self esteem being low for... reasons. Like if you grew up sheltered and praised you should be overconfident, not underconfident.
Hard agree. I can't suspend my disbelief THIS bad. This setup technically isn't one of the worst I've seen but somehow it ticks me off even more than usual. imo this MC sucksI'm already annoyed.
