So, the Hyme country, or whatever it was, has a hierarchy based around skills, but are also stupid as fuck about how they work? Sounds like humans/humanoids to me, always doing the dumbest things without research.
I'm a tiny bit disappointed that the King didn't hug his daughter and grandson, but I love that he was about to destroy an entire country just because they treated his family poorly. Seems like a cool guy.
Id honestly like to see what the hell a holy knight will do against a panzer tank, seeing how the fatherland so to speak has tech, and Ain has knowledge.
Also i think being able to make almost a nearly endless supply of star crystals to funnel a economy is much greater then a holy knight during a time where there is not a war and they retire out a general that young to being an Earl.
They are less developed then Isthalica. But ya, the worst thing to do is assume that a skill has a similar effect to one with a similar name, and no research the differences. Or since they care about strength so much focus on improving how someone can develop new skills.
The next time Ain and his brother meet (several years forward in Euro the country that Olivia found more crystals in), on top of the brother being incredibly rude and disrespectful (I think at least one of Ain's entourage hd to be held back/told to stand down) he also can not seem to comprehend that Ain could be stronger than him or even the strongest in the group (I think including the warship they traveled there in) when told so, and takes losing a sparring match to the WEAKEST of Ain's entourage badly (the brother was the strongest of the Hyme group)
Later in the web novel there is a war between Hyme and Isthalica, and from what I got the brother could only stand his ground against Ain because of 2 things, doping with his Fiance's skill (not the one they were going to meet at the party, they broke off the engagement with the families demotion, but another girl with a boosting skill who wanted to marry a "hero"), and that Ain was holding back.
WTF isnt the archduke smart enough not to start a war with Isthalica?
I thought he had some brains. He knew exactly not to mess with them, and i think he honestly assumed the invitation would originally have gone to Oliva and Ainz and not the second wife and idiot holy knight son.
I also assuming Claune gets shipped off to marry Ains in hopes for a political marriage?
Sigh the country lost a prince, with the price of a stupid holy knight.
I guess this is what you expect when an idiot goddess bases your life skills off a Gacha machine.
Truely that goddess is more stupid then Aqua from Konosuba
Uncle Lloyd and Papa were ready to DESTROY at least an Earl's territory. I love it when Old Men are ultimate family men. My immediate doting granpappy prediction was wrong though.
So...are we gonna ask about Aunt Kitty anytime soon? No? That's fine, she's fluffy and cute.
@aigomorla actually it's an Earl that fucked up. The Archduke is the oldman in the previous chapter. So yeah he's even dumber that you think. A mere Earl has broken off a diplomatic agreement, he single handedly put the entire country in a constant threat. Luckily for him though, Ishtalica won't attack because of their own rule (which doesn't mean much when it comes to international politics). Now the Archduke have to somehow clean the mess he made.
If we assume that the skill Gacha uses an actual Gacha logic, then it can be assumed that SR>Rare>Common. Since the Goddess said it's a guaranteed rare, he actually might be given a pretty good deal. It's just that the dad is too small-minded to see Ain's worth.
@naeon : I thought that was who @aigomorla was talking about... the archduke who was hosting the party, and seemed to assume that the earl still in compliance with the agreement until shown otherwise. Not the musclehead father who snubbed his princess wife and her son.
@naeon
have to point a couple things out:
1 - in spite of gacha drawing logic about how rare a skill is, just because a skill is rare doesn't mean it's obviously good or even *actually* a good skill (although I think MC is safe on that point given the mana stone stat absorption effect and the ability to mass produce ultra rare gem flowers)
i.e. if someone else got a similar deal and drew an SR skill that lets him/her control electronics freely, in a modern world like ours that'd be OP, but if that person got sent to the same world as MC here did...well that might be ranked as an SR skill, but in a world of swords and magic that has no electronics to control, it'd be a worthless junk skill of the lowest order and the fact that he's the only one in the world to have it wont change how useless it is there, like if you at least got a thief/murder skill it would let you be better at something irregardless of whether or not you can find a legal use to put it to or not, but a skill that lets you manipulate something that doesn't exist in that reality is effectively the same as no skill at all

2 - in all fairness, it seems like daddy was just too busy with his little HOLY KNIGHT to bother finding out if his other son was capable of more than what could be achieved by a series of simple commoners serving as food testers, after all son one just had an unknown ability and son two was a HOLY KNIGHT which is a known and respected ultra high tier skill (not saying it excuses him for completely dismissing his wife and son over that difference, but ya know, when you stop and realize that son two has the stereotypical MC skill it does become ever so slightly more understandable)
Basically agree with @InsaneInsomniac . Regarding the Earl Roundheart's poor decision and apparent favouritism, it's not really difficult to believe it, given how it's actually common in noble society in our history (and even now in common families just not to that degree), maybe it's just that a lot of us come from loving modern families so we can't really relate.
tl;dr
IMO, favouritism is largely influenced by society and cultures. i.e.: Ancient China that favours sons over daughters and if females are too capable/knowledgable they are shunned instead (and also many other reasons that are a whole other topic). In this case, Hyme's culture favours stronger known abilities (2nd son's Holy Knight) than discriminated despite unresearched abilities (MC's Detox EX). Generally, in many ancient societies and cultures, if there's some competition within the family, the family head just closes one eye and let it be as long as harassments are not obvious, carried out within own household only, and not provable without clear evidence, with the mindset that the fittest will survive and only then can take up the family as successor to face the ugly politics with other houses. Very loving, united and supportive noble family MCs get that are usually portrayed in many Japanese mangas with historical society inspired settings are not really convincing TBH, which is fine because it's comforting and not what the plots are focusing on. Unlike a lot of Chinese novels and manhuas, or even Game of Thrones, these show more vicious internal politics and conspiracies in out of the noble families MCs got into, including branch families and families behind in-laws, in which are actually more convincing to me because let's be real, many people especially those in ancient times are power-hungry and greedy, and even if you just want to keep to yourself staying away it doesn't mean others won't come at you.
In this case, IMO, the earl was probably unsatisfied with the political marriage with Olivia and more actually romantically involved with 2nd wife, and on top of that MC's misjudged potential, earl's mom pressure and influence on him, earl's own ego (that cannot be satisfied by MC's ability but 2nd son's can in their society) and short-sightedness (thinking that Olivia wouldn't leave him because divorce is shameful etc), political social cultural factors and some other factors that we may not know or miss out. Stupid and irrational? Yes. Unbelievable? Not at all. We have to always remember that stupid people exist and this level of stupidity is still within believable range lol.
The current King's taste has nothing to do with 1st princess Kadyma's appearance.
The Earl will be punished, but not a death sentence. By the way, nobles are rarely getting any death sentence unless they attempt to murder someone of royalty or start a coup d'etat. In most scandalous cases, they get rank-demoted, restricted freedom like cannot go outside from their own room/house. In more serious cases but not involving royalties, they get jailed, exiled or served poison in private instead of public execution.
