[MEGATHREAD] Tags Suggestions

This thread is for suggesting and discussing new tags to be implemented in MangaDex. To suggest a new tag, please follow the guidelines below.

Guidelines:​

1. Your tag should represent a broad theme or concept that applies to a wide range of content. Providing examples is encouraged to clarify where it would be used.
2. Tags should be clear, easy to understand. Try to avoid suggesting tags that are too abstract or based on niche references that might confuse others.
3. Avoid suggesting tags that could closely overlap with existing ones. If unsure, check our Tags Definition for guidance, ask if you're still unsure.
4. Provide a clear explanation of the tag's purpose and what type of content it is meant to categorize.
5. Tags should primarily focus on describing content itself, such as its themes, genres, or storytelling structure. Tags that focus on external conditions or processes are not in line with this rule. Other types of tags may be accepted, provided they help users identify the reading structure or navigational format of the content.
6. Tags promoting content that violates site rules won't be accepted.

Important:​

Anything falling under the banner of "porn tags" is currently pending a tag rework. We're in need of a system for categorizing these tags that will allow us to flag them appropriately and segregate them from the main list of tags.

Genre tag "1Koma"​

I have come across a lot of interesting manga title just to realize they're only 1 pages long. Im sure adding a "1 koma" genre would help people who wants to read them, or exclude them.

That's not what "koma" means

I would be in favour of this, but once you implement this, you realise that some of these interesting-sounding manga are just two pages, or three pages, or four pages, and then you suggest adding a "short manga" tag, but how do you define "short"? And so on and so forth.

POV Format Tag​

I've been noticing a lot of these first person POV web comics that are usually a page or 2 long each chapter and portrayed from the point of view of an unnamed protagonist, Can there be a format tag for these types of web comics or manga?

In the themes, I think there should be a tag to filter in/out celebrity or social media stories. There are a lot of manhwas that center around celebrity life or streamers/internet influencers and it would be nice to be able to filter those only.

+1 Yes we need a tag for that. because Fantasy, Isekai, Video Game, Virtual Reality is not it. Just see Solo Leveling, how would you find it otherwise ? supernatural ? it is way to large


To find anything i have to use another site, then come back to mangadex to find if its is here....so i end up using that other website in the end while i prefer reading on mangadex.

We already have alot of works that use that as a theme, and with the fact that we don't have a modern time tag it makes it difficult to find without bulk searching and that's just inefficient.

Here's some examples of works we already have that can fit the theme (it isn't all of them)

Genius Saleman which focuses on selling medical products to hospitals

Rebirth back to 1983 which has the MC selling alot of things and how some strategies back then worked

Modern Villainess; it's not easy building a corporate empire before the crash Like the name implies it takes place in japan's bubble era and focused on making a corporate empire.

Real Man tries to become a CEO of a electronics buisness (Alot of phones)

New Employee tries to become a CEO

I am creating this suggestion topic, so people can make a list of possible useful tags and maybe explain your reasoning (there are a lot of tag topics, this would be one to generate a list).
My first suggestion is age gap, my personal reason is that I don't like romcoms with an age gap when it's a minor and an adult (I don't care if it's two adults thought, like Super no Ura de Yani Sū Futari. But I don't know if it is possible to make two different tags to separate both of them) If anyone else suggests other tags, I will create a list and keep updating this topic

Personally I wish we had a tag for netorare, not just due to the large amount of porn with it but also for the normal manga that also features it. You can clearly see how much it unnerves people by looking at the rating scores of manga that features it. Here's an example: https://mangadex.org/chapter/716debd8-fd54-45ae-8c3d-5657229b3d08 it's the second lowest rated manga on the website.

I'd also appreciate it if we had a way to tag chapters as MTL, but I understand that's a different thing since a manga page can't be tagged with it, it would need a per chapter tag.

Mtl tagging has been discussed at length in other threads and is not going to happen. Also it would require chapter tags to be a thing.

I wish it was at least possible on the client side, it wouldn't need to be a site wide thing that needed to be agreed upon by everyone. But I guess you can just block groups and achieve the same effect

"Childcare" - there are more and more series focusing on raising children/ taking care of them. I don't see any other tag compelling well for this specific thing, that has become main focus of quite a lot of series.

"Succubus" - is something that is becoming new mainstream type of monster girl (even some guys), similarly to vampire, tho not as global, just Japan. And we have a tag for vampires. Even for Zombies, despite them being less common nowadays, than Succubus.

"Assasins" - probably the fastest rising theme of Action series and very present among new Romance series. For example: Sakamoto Days, Kill Blue, Nezumi's First Love, Spy x Family, Assassin × Cinderella, Kindergarten Wars, Akabane Honeko and many more

"Idols" - I'm the most surprised this one doesn't exist, since it's not even a new trend. Many old and new series focus on idols. Both male and female.

Economics: Stories where economics, trade and merchantry have a large focus.

False underdog: Stories where the main character constantly gets treated like he is weak, except he actually isn't and actually is just overpowered.

Journey: Where the Main character or group is on a journey and travels the world, though with a bit more of a focus on the traveling part, like Kino's Journey or Bard Loen.

No Plot Armour: Stories where being part of the main cast offers little to no protection against dying to a degree surpassing normal amounts of deaths (Like mentor, love interests in the early chapters, etc.) Generally ones with the anybody can die feeling.

Female Protagonist: Because there should be one. It's hard finding good stories with female protagonist because there's too many male protagonists.

that said, i'd like to see a Xianxia tag instead of having all cultivation novels being grouped into Wuxia. Murim is just basically the korean take on chinese Xianxia (koreans say as much too), so murim tag would be unnecessary and just tagged as Xianxia or stay under Wuxia.

would also like to see werewolf tag, though it's not as common as vampire.

Educative : For series with significant pedagogical content. Encompass both mangas where story is at the first plan and learning is secondary (Dr Stone, Moyashimon, Otomeyogatari), those where pedagogical content at the core of the manga (Hataraku Saibou and spin-off, Heaven's design team), and textbooks-like mangas ("The Manga Guide to Linear Algebra" and the likes). There is a lots of these in mangadex !
