the ceremony is too fast?
Yeah they shortened it just a little bit. Also in the novel it comes a little more into details about how Krishna flies out of Black Lotus and they zoom on it on a side and show how he flies between the crystals. Pretty nice detail to read.
hiro isn't sit alone but right next to a bunch high rank official in light novel
He sits alone, they sit across from him, but not sure if that means they're in the first row on the other side of the scene, which we can't see because manga shows only half of it.
i am pretty sureit serena that personally give hiro the star award and is the one giving the speech
He received the award from the officer commanding the outpost. Serena is only Lieutant Commander.
Also Serena was getting her own award.
I wished they showed more Serena during this ceremony too.

MC , with this medal, is equivalent to a low-class Noble. He also has the undisputed right to wear those swords.
For all intents and purposes to the outside world, he is a Noble, regardless of MC's Opinion on this...

And, as is occasionally shown... As a Commoner you do not throw fists with Nobles... They have the full right to cut you down there and then if you even contemplate doing so. Let alone actually proceed to do so.
If anything, the idiot mercenary being bisected on the spot would be considered normal, and a consequence of his own stupidity.
Yes, but maybe not exactly? In the first place any noble (Like Serena) who wants to keep good relationships with mercenary guild avoids from making mercs their enemies unless it's completely their fault.
Also Hiro immediately using the swords to cut down some commoner, not to mention mercenary, would gather immediate hostility from any upright nobles (Like Serena again) and even from those less upright but who are sword maniacs. They might even orchestrate something against him or challenge him to a duel, or both.
And since his title is more of a Honorary it will lose against any noble and wouldn't allow him to go unpunished.
Still he might avoid life in prison but, idk, they might take the award back since it's bad PR for the empire.

she wasn't holding any kind of weapon
She is a weapon. Barehanded probably only a noble with a sword could stop her.
Spoiler: With weapon? Barely anyone.

There's no explanation that sounds reasonable is the problem. He's too good to be suicidally reckless, but no one who isn't suicidally reckless would do that, and they wouldn't be around long enought to get good at it.
If he is gonna gain aggro no matter what just be proud, say to be the most skilled merc in the room and leave at it, instead of agreeing he have some trick and doesn't want to share.

Ahh yes, checking if he's got his feet and is not a ghost.
:dogkek: That part is funny.
The ship's cockpit comes with a simulator software. He can train whenever he has some free time, just not showing it since it's not screentime worthy. In fact in the novel it's mentioned he practices piloting Black lotus in case Mei cannot pilot for whatever reason.
Wait what? That IS a important part for his screentime! :meguuusad:

I get the response though. Like imagine this in real life. One dude strolling through a battlefield, casually dodging bullets while using his revolver to headshot all of his enemies.

Though I wish the MC just said, "Training pods." and left it like that. This way is just too cliche.
He might've thought it was some noble's scheme to have Hiro awarded a medal. Hiro was wearing swords and whether he was just some mercenary affiliated with some noble or a noble's son wannabe-mercenary only adds to it. Maybe he thinks that they might've tried to fake his ship's battle data and in fact just used some hidden detached fleet to blow the enemy large crystals from far away to make it more believable. It's not like any merc would notice any detached fleet trying to hide themselves and the military might've been bribed by fellow nobles! :salute:
And the fact that small crystals retreated to follow his ship doesn't seem like a proof of his presence in there since they don't know enough about crystal life forms anyway.
But well, tbh that's just me trying to be the devil's advocate. I too consider it a bit too cliche but, oh well, what can you do?
Also he wouldn't be using a revolver but more of a rocket launcher... anti ship torpedoes are pretty much buffed up nuclear warheads.

If he is gonna gain aggro no matter what just be proud, say to be the most skilled merc in the room and leave at it
I'll have to ask you to wait for part 2 of the chapter where he parts with him :smugnako:

This might sound like an oxymoron, but what's the point of having critical thinking if you can't occasionally throw shade at some dude too dumb to keep his mouth shut?

Not like blud could actually do anything to him at a military venue anyway, also nobody there even know who he is.

needing a woman to defend him.
I mean, he effectively put all his skill points into piloting. hand to hand isn't really a thing that he did in the game, so it makes sense that he isn't strong in that field when it becomes "real". Besides, money is a form of power, and he paid a LOT for Mei, so why not use her :ROFLMAO:

fuck i was wrong a lot. gosh damit.
i should stop speed reading.
Pretty nice detail to read.

but yeah it a nice detail, which is why i really recomend people to read light novel. sometime the yapping of light novel and text wall, is the only way to convey the story.
and space merc have a lot of context, that why there is people that whining about hiro let his ship be scan by engineer.

I wonder if he's actually stronger than average seeing as he grew up on a planet with actual gravity and thus would be more naturally developed instead of growing up in space for on an asteroid with artificial gravity and limited resources like mimi.

Yeah, for whatever reason they cut out Serena's part in the Manga.

On a side note, nice to see people are using the Fandom Wiki i made (still work in progress).

And has a sword of a noble on his waist. They are a HUGE warning sign, because only nobles carry them. In the setting, everyone knows that sword=noble, and you don't screw with nobles. They are stronger than you and faster than you(genetic and cybernetic enhancements are pretty standard among the nobility), carry swords that cut through you like air, and are held to a different set of laws than you. They can, both physically and legally, cut a non-noble down basically at any time for any reason.

And the assault wing something-or-other medal gives Hiro all the rights and privileges of a noble.

This random dude gets off with just a shattered wrist because he is lucky and Hiro's nice.

I faintly recall the WN mentioning that
for cybernetic enhancements, certain people choose to mod themselves until they look like cyborgs (like in Cyberpunk 2077), but this is not popular with the space nobles who prefer more discreet enhancements.
