On that note, I'm also disappointed the manga is using the generic 20th century mansion interiors for the noble ship. I was expecting something more modern sci-fi luxury like that spaceship from the Passengers movie.

Go back to 33.1, page 3/4. Assuming that flagship to be on par with a military battleship, Krishna is quite a bit smaller than that thing's bridge, and the rest of the ship is just ridiculously huge. Hell, the beams from those laser canons are wider than Krishna (ch 32.2 p10, 12, ch 33.1 p1, 16, 17).

Also this chapter, page 14, assuming that to be Krishna undocking from a hypothetical mothership.

But it looks like they're taking the "just upscale it" approach to capital ship design, which makes everything feel weird because especially without smaller ships to compare them to, all the ships feel like they're the same base scale (which, again, I think they are, even when they're not supposed to be).

I'm way overthinking this, but whatever. I like my sci-fi ships.

Damn, just how expensive is it to buy a plot of land on a planet? Hiro was able to buy supplies, upkeep the ship, pay the debt the two girls had, rent a vacation planet, buy a robo maid and he's still not close to buying land.

I'd imagine the easier way to live planetside is to be part of a contracted pioneering expedition group, but that just means the land is still governed and owned by the respective noble in control of a star system.
And land ownership is probably only allowed for certain citizen class.
Mind you they're in the Empire currently, the Federation might even be more capitalistic and charge more for planet side land rights.

Usually in space opera, those are least populated though also least developed. There is just this possibility about entire galaxy having already been explored & settled, or human (friendly) space being surrounded by enemies like in Warhammer 40,000.

Usually in space opera, those are least populated though also least developed. There is just this possibility about entire galaxy having already been explored & settled, or human (friendly) space being surrounded by enemies like in Warhammer 40,000.

They're currently at war with crystal lifeforms (Aliens that sort of act like grey goo). Living on the edges of settled regions, some of which are active warzones, would be suicidal. Plus Hiro prefers mercenary lifestyle over exploration.
Also pretty sure it was confirmed they haven't explored whole galaxy because of the crystal lifeforms.
