Why does everyone say “hum” and “hoe” all the time

I don’t think you’re aware that either of those are words that mean things, but they are
Those are probably just "hmm" and "hoe~", as in a dazed exclamation of surprise.

I thought that Mei is an M but that reaction on her punishment doesn't seem like rewarding to her
Mei is an M

It's explained in the chapter that the biggest punishment would be to have Mei do nothing, since she's coded as a maid and wants to help. She was forced to do nothing, which goes against her whole precept as a robot/cyborg

Also refer to this.
Seeing Mei like that reminds me of the episode where SpongeBob forgot his name because he only knew fine dining and breathing. All she really knows is how to be a maid and guarding her owner, and he told her not to function as a maid as a punishment. The amount of errors and paradoxes that must have caused for her programming...

Someone also mentioned that it's explained in the novel that she perceives time differently due to computational power and mechanical brain. So 30 minutes felt much longer

I like how everybody assumed he was going to give Mei a lewd "punishment" and then he really was just actually making her miserable for a legit punishment.
Honestly, I REALLY dislike him letting his biggest ace in the hole, Krishna get scanned and lose, as I said, his biggest ace in the hole as people didn't know ANYTHING about that ship, now, they will know all of it's strengths and weaknesses.
Imagine if they start mass producing it, just such a bad deal for an extra, what it was, 4/6mil? He made 20mil+ in what feels less than 3months, so that's almost chump change to him if he really starts grinding.
Imagine the tech is black-boxed so the scans are meaningless. That'd be top comedy

I find it fascinating how in an earlier chapter he was literally told that the scanning wasn't illegal so there wasn't anything he could do about it, and this chapter the people called "the authority" are saying that it is illegal.
Wasn't it the chapter that they arrived in this system and everyone was scanning his ship, the elf said it wasn't illegal?

Imagine, for a second, that you're an AI. You are programmed to get a high score in certain parameters. The higher the score is, the better you perform; the better you "feel".

Now, for the next second, imagine that you are restricted from performing anything to increase that score, even if it would be trivial. All you can do is just watch as that score tanks internally, knowing that raising the score is way harder than dropping it.

...yeah, my condolensces.

Mei is actually quite competent in many fields and subjects. So this isn't really her being told not to be a maid. It's more like placing narcotics just out of reach of a druggy going thrue withdrawals.

But I do agree that she would be suffering from a conflict in her programming to serve her master, but being ordered to do nothing but watch for threats of violence.

Could be a retcon or a translation mistake, but I can see how it is possible. In the vastness of space, where pirates are literally everywhere, being able to scan unidentified ships could mean the difference between life and death, but when docked at a colony these scans can be seen as a major privacy problem, since the ships have been cleared by the authorities to not be pirates.

Think there would be a slight, but meaningful difference between using ship based instruments to scan a ship in flight and taking a hand scanner to a ship in a docking bay.

Not only because doing so would likely give them physical access to the ship, but also most of the ship systems would be on standby for safety reasons while docked and unmanned.

Hoe is like this
Only 3:07? Sakura must of really cut down on them.

@Aricitic It's probably a function of how deep a scan you're doing. Sort of like how people have public and private senses of privacy. You can be totally scanned from a distance in public (there are limits to what a scan of that type might reveal, engine output, power signs, radar signature, weapons signatures) So like the paparazzi will take photos of people at the beach, uncouth, but not necessarily something an average person might not see out in public. But once you're in an official dry dock situation, the government doesn't let you do an up close deep scan of tech. So, like taking photos of you in a Water Closet/Rest Room situation is totally not cool.

I think it's a matter of ship-to-ship scans (like radar and stuff) versus in person deep scan like the technicians are trying to do here

Well, if Mei starts misbehaving again, there can be a sexy type of punishment Hiro can use.
One with roles reversed and Hiro attending to her like to a Princess...

My interpretation why she looked happy when he said he was gonna punish her is more of a "He cares enough to do this", than her being an M, also closer to how you would treat a person, you wouldnt bother punishing a tablet or a knife right.

Probably not the same level of scan.
In space you scan to jauge the other ship's threat (shield levels, weapon signatures or energy levels, etc.)
On ground, you use very powerful and precise scanner to analyse the components.
