I've noticed that for some reason most JPN written stories seem to like servile MCs, still wanting to talk peace even though everyone else wants to fight. But KR and CN stories don't use servile characters in this scenario, they are usually always straight up merciless like MC here.

They still have to worry about some collateral, they are in a very low numbered section. That means it is closest to life support for the colony. Blowing a hole in a non-structural wall isn't a big deal, but using the weapon he just used (plasma based), could literally open a hole into space. Which would not be good for anyone that isn't Mei.

Maybe it has to do with the mentality post-WW2. China and S. Korea were occupied by Imperial Japan, meanwhile Imperial Japan ended up with it's shit pushed in by the Allies.

Actually, they do need to worry about collateral damage. Recall in the previous chapter that these people hide out in the machinery spaces that maintain the station's vital infrastructure. Things like life support systems, water treatment, and power generation. Yes, these areas should be protected, but this station is one of the older ones where the squatters began to settle in long before anyone suspected this would be an issue.
