This is my theory.
Remember the think in McD with granma, the spirit consume "each other", it was the higher one consume lesser one.

I think there is tier or caste in their system,which the stronger you are the more you need to eat(like mcd) OR eat a strong spirit (quantity vs quality)

Thus making me thinking, the shrine(and its monster and attendant) ask a strong spirit as offeering.
Since romm and mieruko have a "gift" to see them(strong one) so the shrine assume they capable of luring them to the shrine.

Which answer some question about romm situation and if you look closely at apartement chapter,when the shrine monster consume what bothering hana,it looks like its "satisfied" for now,but i think the shrine monster kinda want ppl to lure it to them since leaving the mountain strains the big boy

This might be the first time we see a spirit actually, legitimately try to kill someone. They've been spooky before but this was serious. I also wonder about why he has that enormous one following him.

I don't like how long the shrine mystery has been drug out, since characters are clearly choosing to not tell Mieruko life saving information at this point. But this chapter heavily implied that the medium made some sort of bargain with them as well.

@KhalE None of Miko's three chances involved a serious, physical death threat. They were scary, but the ghosts were stopped before they could actually do anything. So we have no idea if they would have actually harmed her. The ghost in the water, I'll admit, was putting Hana's life at risk.

I'm sticking to my theory that the truly big and creepy ones are some sort of gatekeepers until proven otherwise.

Or it could simply be a case of the big wraith eating the little wraiths and becoming stronger until it's big enough to claim it's own patch of turf.

@thegiantpossum The ghost didn't do anything except make the beads explode just like some previous ghosts. She tripped on her disguise heels and the railing broke. Both of those weren't shown to have a direct connection to the ghost.

Looks like he's trying to expand the total sphere of humanity's capacity for exorcising, by exposing as many people as possible to ghosts. Explains why granny doesn't like him.

He's already maximized his personal ability to make exorcising items, so all he's got left is to recruit stronger people and make something new.

I for one don't want to see this manga's version of what happened in Newcastle.

Plus, I can't picture Romm tricking Hell's triumvirate into curing his cancer, nicking Lord Morpheus' pouch of sand or befriending sentient salads.

@Niconicoknee @ktensei Exactly what @sc001 said Julia can see auras, and more than anything lets not forget that Mieruko power is irregular, she has some pretty strong thing going for her (for her distaste) but for what we can see it is just unbalanced, she can see clearly things that are of a strong level but can't see weaker things or even her best friend amazing aura, she doesn't seem to have purification powers and more than anything her condition just... popped out of nowhere one day.
