Chapter 32 raw (leave a like)

Dorothy described this chapter as feeling "back to the basics of volume 1." I describe it as this.
It's pretty fun seeing Aizawa's usual antics from the perspective of someone who literally cannot comprehend them. But it's hard to shake the dread when the manga keeps implying everything's on a razor's edge and could go horribly wrong any day now wow look at the silly idols!

Since Kasumi can now see all ghosts, we know ghost trauma can awaken spiritual powers. There's likely different sources, such as the implication Sayaka's bloodline is special or Karasuma potentially having some ghostly power source that prevented her from entering the school's barrier. But what about Michi? Did she start seeing ghosts after a traumatic incident, or was it in her blood?

I love Kasumi's angling to take advantage of Michi's problem without breaking the ice that it's her problem too. She's always been one of the most socially intelligent characters yet this manga has an undercurrent of that sort of politeness blowing up in people's faces (see: Masaki). But as I said after ch30, Kasumi is maybe the best ally Michi could have in navigating the complex emotions she's trapped by. Things I really doubt Sayaka or Karasuma could help with. In case you're wondering, that 'fairy' flashback is from chapter 12.

Sayaka's grandma's irises have some distinct fuzziness She's either remarking on that given the close-up of both girls' eyes or on another pair of visitors concerned with Sayaka's injuries. And speaking of the other pair, we last saw Karasuma meeting with Tear at the end of chapter 27. Maybe we'll finally learn the nature of that connection; it seems like they're on Nagi's trail.

Kasumi has definitely been to Sayaka's room a few times~

Chapter 33's raws are out; I've fallen behind. Whatever I say feels compromised so I don't want to say much.
We know volume 6 begins the 2nd half of the manga: the answer half. Dorothy's been wistful over this turning point. So I can just say what she said the day before ch32 released, since surely that's no spoiler (yes Dorothy was working on chapter 34 before 32 was out).
Getting that anxious feeling again... What am I anxious about now?
Am I really okay drawing manga drifting along without a care in this world? I wanted to take time off after Vamp-sensei ended. But Aizawa-san is going through a really important phase, there's a lot of work to be done, and I can't let up. Will I have the chance to draw Aizawa-san as far as it needs to go? But how far does it need to go, how much work is that going to be? My PC's getting slower. My favorite plushie got a hole in it. I seriously need to take better care of myself.
...I'll try doing better! At least meeting a friend today'll take my mind off things.

Currently at work on Aizawa-san ch34.
Making progress while crying, suffering, agonizing, laughing at how many pages it is. I'll pay closer attention to the page count next time. But I had to give this part of the story as much room as it needs...
Someone told me chapter 32 should be going up soon!

Should I draw a light-reading, stress free, easy to understand manga? Or a sprawling intricate story? Hmm.
I wasn't so calculating when I first planned it out, but Aizawa-san could have gone either way.
Fortunately it was given the chance to go on a while so it's heading in the direction of a more expansive story, but it easily could have wrapped up after a short run of smaller SoL situations.

"Who could write something so horrible happening?" I think to myself as I draw ch34.

I think the thing that's most interesting to me (having not yet finished the chapter) is the seeming implication that Sayaka's grandmother might be able to tell if another person can see ghosts. Kasumi now having the tell-tale Fuzzy Irises that mark her as one who can pierce the veil, and both her and Michi getting that bit of scrutiny from a woman who also seems to sport similar ocular characteristics (plus...y'know, she's Sayaka's grandma. Bloodlines, etc), makes me wonder if it's something visually "indicative in-universe". Like if Michi paid careful-enough attention, she'd notice Kasumi's eye differences, herself, type thing.
Or if it's visual for our sake as the readers, and there's maybe some other "tell" that Grandma is picking up on.

Or she's not looking at that at all and it's something else entirely.

But it's a very neat implication that details might matter in more than the meta-narrative sense.

Thanks for the bang-up TL work and dedication to all the nitty gritty, as always.

**and having finished the chapter....hoo boy this feels like the powder keg's only getting bigger. No clue when things'll blow, but I just cannot with how on-edge this whole series makes me feel (and I'm loving every moment of it, of course).

@Beltaro Just a quick reminder that, unlike Dynasty, we don't put the volume on chapters until the physical (or e-book) volume has actually come out, so you probably need to change ch. 31 & 32 to No Volume. Keep up the good work, btw.

That's a great point. I never expected Dorothy to explicitly address the eyes, but it might be as simple as someone knowing of that tell and making it diegetic. Or it's possible there's another layer to sight, like seeing someone's aura. I'm curious how far Dorothy wants to expand on the spiritual rules to the setting; there's hints laying groundwork that appear consistent enough but it'd be such an upheaval to the perception of things.

Huh thanks, I never knew that. The chapters are updated and I'll keep it in mind in the future.

I was really hoping we would hear from Tear and Karasuma soon. The Scooby Gang is nearly fully assembled, which can only mean we are about to get some juicy info. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks as always @Beltaro

Thank you, I knew there was a term for what I was trying to describe but it had escaped me until seeing your comment.

Diegetic elements are finicky to utilize well, I think; but as you said, we've already gotten little pieces here and there, and I imagine that if anyone would be able to utilize what we the readers have as characterization cues from outside the setting, it'd be the character who has literal decades on the others and potentially has the sort of proficiency that such decades would grant in honing certain abilities, on top of being related to one of the very-spiritually-active living people in the series.

Maan things have been really freaking spooky all around... fun times are NOT ahead T_T

Also feel really bad for Kasumi, especially if this change is permanent. Imagine having to learn how to ignore jumpscares everyday!... At random intervals! (this sympathy also applies to Michi but shes kind of a vet at this point lolz)

Also ty for the tl~!
