Since the author's too much of a coward to give us a harem ending between Yuu and the sisters, it's likely some kind of a relationship between him and someone else (like Sakura) has to be shoehorned in. Thus, the narrative focus has to be drawn constantly from the main four to prepare us for that cop-out.
