i dont really see how thats relevant when you two are ADULTS!
Age difference are part of the power dynamics which don't disappear in a relationship just because both of the parties involved are adults

So age will always be a relevant factor in any relationship

And the protagonists concerns have always been how lopsided the relationship is if he goes with it, not only is he much older, experienced, and composed, he is also her direct superior and boss

All those factors lead to him not taking Misato seriously, which then become aggravated if we add in his unresolved trauma from his divorce which affect his self confidence

Kanda perhaps could have mentioned that there are large age gap pairs in the world living perfectly happily, some even in public. It's not the norm, but it's nothing especially exceptional. The older you are, the less you care about other people's opinions normally, unless you are a narcissist, so maybe Konishikawa wouldn't really be affected by such a point. But then again, he's not really quite himself with this whole romantic trouble, so maybe pointing it out could have affected him.

man, that was ex said some terribly cruel shit to him. i bet he didn't deserve it either.
We need more context over his past than that same panel of her crying we've seen plenty of times.

Was it just ignore or abandonment issues because he worked himself to the bone over prioritizing them both as a married couple?

Even if he did or didn't do as previous question asked, what if he cheated with someone else (this is assuming that maybe several issues piled together)? Although Konishikawa seems honest enough not to casually cheat but we don't know the full truth.

Maybe and this is throwing a shot to the dark, a miscarriage we haven't heard about is the core issue (or part of their possible pile of issues)? At least from her wife's side it would be heavy enough and a reason for that recurring crying panel.
