he does seem really obsessed for some reason to make sakaki like him. dude needs to learn whatever happened with his father and her mother has nothing to do with him, and for her to be in any way bitter at him because of her moms decision to not come back is unacceptable. of course, something as cringy and sudden of a decision like declaring to not need love because she doesnt need love is something i could 100% see a young and naive teenager doing, so...it is what is

most kids esp. lads at 16 at idiots, this kid is the opposite too sensitive

and yeah, where it is likable or not it is realistic/believable unlike the other stuff we read/watch

like high school fighting wars, putting full grown men to shame, taking over the world and other shit

I am delighted to see a high school kid act like one

Does Naotatsu have any friends beside Kaede? I think he mentioned having friends back at home, but the only people he seems to interact with are the other residents of the house. He's doing it to shoulder the burden, but I expect Sakaki to feel guilty that Nao intends to close his heart on her behalf. Maybe she won't. But he really is his father's son, both worrying about someone who they're loosely connected to and worrying those that love them.

I love how realistic the characters are in this, especially the teenagers, nothing they're doing feels out of place for what a teenager might think or act like.
Nao really is his father's son, in good ways for now.
Also, "Get tch'd by the person behind you"
God I love his uncle.
I'm not sure where the romance in this manga is going to go to. Is Nao going to open up Sakaki's heart so that she can move on and find love, or are they going to end up together? I personally prefer him with Izumiya.
