I've been reading more manga lately, and I noticed comment sections treating NTR like the plague, what's the reason?

Why is NTR hated so much. Like, yeah, cheating is bad, but these are fictional characters. Why do manga readers hate NTR that much? Is there some sort of context I'm missing?

You get emotionally attached to characters. Rarely do I see people rooting for the downfall and unhappiness of the main character especially in the romcom genre (yes, I know there are exceptions). But in romcoms especially the whole point of the romcom genre is to see 2 mc's (fmc and mmc) get together. The whole point is to get emotionally attached to both characters and to watch and see how they grow and evolve over the course of the series. You watch them fight, argue, laugh, have fun, goof off and love each other with the end goal in mind that all this build up will end with the pay off of when the 2 finally get together and and thr real fluffy wholesome stuff can commence. Now the problem with NTR is that it takes everything above and throws it in the trash. The connection between characters? Trash. Their feelings and yours that you got attached to? Trash. The whole end goal of these two getting together that you've been patiently waiting for and spending your time reading? Trash. Basically, if the story doesn't let you know it's NTR from the off then it's readers will feel like and will have actually wasted thier time. Also you know society and the majority of people see relationships as between 2 people (yes again, I know, there are exceptions) so when one character betrays and hurts another so deeply it's despised by the readers. Now if you can't understand anything I've written above then I just think you're brains wired different I'm not sure you're ever going to truly understand. But hey no 2 minds are ever wired the complete same.

I read media with a more story-focused view rather than a character-focused view, so I don't mind seeing such things happen to characters I've emotionally invested in or even being betrayed by an author if it means the plot is made more interesting, but I can see why one may want to avoid something like NTR or cheating in general.

Yeah there you go (you just summed that up way better than I did). Also I can definitely understand where you're coming from. Like in game of thrones, it might be upsetting for a character you've invested into die, but that's also what makes the story of game of thrones so interesting. But again, different stories different genre. I think NTR does have its place but that should be with the drama tag, while cute fluffy stories like this one get the romcom tag.

It wasn't nearly as bad as the translator painted it to be, but if Uki's whole personality becomes fantasizing with Mizudako NTR-Yuri then its actually going to become annoying, hopefully it was a 1 time gag or atleast not a recurring joke whenever she shows up

It’s YOUR opinion, I personally don't like how she fantasises yuri always, but I try to endure it because the story is fine. NOT everyone is same as you.

It actually feels kinda fresh, given how this trope usually involves a neverending parade of fujoshis rather than a female yuri shipper. Without that context, though, i could definitely see your point.
