Luckily the next chapter does a much better job, and his misunderstandings are totally understandable.

Sorry, this one nearly snaps my suspension of disbelief. There is no way he walked out of that one with a feeling that he's hated instead of a throbbing erection. Literally none of what she said or did implied anything but interest. She fucking straddled him after asking him what he liked to eat. She smiled at him and told him she liked how he reacts to her. They better explain that he has actual mental health issues or it's BS.
