More interaction between mangadex users

I personally think there is a whole social aspect of mangadex that has not been developed enough. Users can send pm, friend requests, write their bios and post their pics, but there's really no point in doing so, since encounters with other users are limited to poorly implemented comment sections, old forum style frontal discussions and mostly inactive discord chats. I personally feel like a live chat on mangadex, on a dedicated page, would be really popular and make mangadex a more fun place to hang out to. Yes, it would be difficult to moderate, but there will also be lots of people willing to help moderating it.

I think you are vastly overestimating the number of MangaDex users who are here for anything other than reading manga.
After all, time spent in a live chat is time not spent catching up on the latest chapter releases, which would be especially annoying to juggle for mobile-only readers.

I agree with comeonnow0 most of the people here just come to read manga and as a council member forums regular I can safely say the idea of a live chat doesn't interest me all that much.

Do take into account how many of those visitors are just lurkers cause id say they make up the bulk of the group.

You do realize there is a live chat for this site, right? Just follow that link in the Community menu labeled "Discord"

OP did mention discord in his first post, citing inactivity, though as I and others have pointed out, a live chat might not be that much more lively:
limited to poorly implemented comment sections, old forum style frontal discussions and mostly inactive discord chats.

I already did write that in the original post. Unfortunatly, it's quite inactive, since most people don't even know about discord, though probably Sterven and comeonn are right anyway. This wikipedia article is killing me https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule_(Internet_culture)

Sorry, the use of the word "chats" in plural confused me. In that case, wouldn't the solution just be to advertise the discord more? Especially since that's the preferred method of contacting mods.

wuaaah, nice article.....

Umu, this true.

Forum like this is enough though, we just need some people that really passionate in making some good thread/s.
Good example of forum site that i know, is only Kaskus (Indonesia Site).

Live chat is really weird for a place like this, and wdy want to talk about in a live chat anyway ? You can't stay on one convo right ? What if there's other idea convo ?

Nope. Most people just don't give a fuck about random chat with random strangers.

When you are shopping how much do you talk with people around you? I personally (usually) don't even talk to cashier :D

I full well know about the discord. But have no interest in joining it for reasons including but not limited to not wanting to jump in a place with a ton of people may or may not be very opinionated about various random manga on the site that I may or may not have read, and may or may not like or hate. The comment sections can get bad enough, I'm not interested in seeing a chatroom full of idiots too.

Maybe try moving some of forums at the homepage? But at the bottom so you have to scroll a bit...
Like mangago .me , it seems lively enough but its not a chat though @vhk

If (and this is a big if) I ever were to set foot in the MD discord channel, it would probably be as a low-participation-mostly-sidelines-with-popcorn,
as certain series/topics might get very heated very frequently, just as @Granitefish imagines.

Eh I'm introverted enough as is. And it's not like I don't participate/interact with people on chapter comments or contribute to forum threads but seeing a live chat would make me feel more excluded if that makes any sense. I'm fine with the forums I always hide live chats whenever I'm at other weeb sites. I feel like when the forum gets revamped maybe it'll be more inviting to people to make busier threads and topics and that'll be enough for me.

hey, the discord's pretty wild, too.
the last time i went to the general over there, someone ordered some nugget.
and then there's this md-general, some mod made a bot so they can attach a link when someone put a page from md's server or something.
i don't even know what that's mean.

Well, I was roasted, so I think we can end it here. Shouldn't have posted anything, since it seems this was a stupid idea in the first place, though it was fun reading everyone's opinions.

To conclude though, I would like to point out how the community is a vital part of this website, and ways to make the scanlators have a happier relation with their readers need to be found, since this is what mangadex was created for in the first place, making the best environment possible for groups and their community.
This should not be a website in which lurkers are the norm, since scanlators do their work surely because they're happy doing it, but also because they want to do something useful for other manga lovers, and get to know them.
As an Italian scanlator, I love reading my readers comments and pm, but it's so frustrating sometimes to publish a chapter that has hundreds or even thousands of views and seeing nothing from readers at all, or just toxic and stupid comment sections. ( I know scanlators who just stopped reading comments in the first place)

That's way I still think groups-readers interaction is still a key part of mangadex system, that needs, in some way, to be further developed.
