If someone like Souma who have God-Tier Skills n Power but deemed unworthy and cast away by his peers and the society..
Then the society is the problem and wrong in that world..n need to get their sh*t together bcz it'll bite them in the ass sooner or later..
Not going to even attempt to defend Soma's parents(because they don't try to defend what they did to him either) but you have to remember the Kingdom they are in is literally based on the policy that "Only those with Skills have worth". His parents know its a stupid policy, but chose to stand with the Kingdom instead of their son. Then turn around and say its for the sake of his freedom so he isn't used by the Royalty and Nobility of the country when his lack of skills would mean the Kingdom is betraying its CORE policy the moment it tried to recruit him. Which would have completely destroyed their original reasoning for icing him out and removing him from the family register in the first place. Not to mention that later on his parents:
Add him back to the family register as a child from an affair his dad had but with the same name and younger(so he hadn't had his skill appraisal yet.
Yeah artist could stand to diversify his character design some same height, hair, and body shape for almost all his adult female characters. Thought the ‘bar tender?’ Was someone we knew already.
I think the mother knew souma was extremely OP, and wanted to hide him away in a closet out from public view.
It seemed like the last chapter she was caught at a dead end, and then decided she had no more choice but to let him go.
I think her last form of protection was to burn that letter and let Camella take all the credit, as to hide him, because she knew he could bring about calamity or reform in form of a revolution.
So i think the mother is not to be hated as much as everyone is expressing, unless someone who read the LN can clarify some stuff and spoil us.
Also i think that new character is the blond elf in the cover.
@aigomorla I'd say the fact that she let him continue living at the family residence at all spoke volumes, too. If she never cared about him, it probably would've been normal for nobles in their particular position to banish a "failure" like that, at the least.
"Who is this girl, so out of place?" The bartender with the revealing cleavage? Most of the patrons are in robes just like the less revealing girl.
Artist-san, if there's anyone out of place, there's a dude in armor in the upper panel who's sitting down and is still towering over everyone. Also his shoulder guards are huge, like they're packing Gundam vernier thrusters.
Page 10, first panel. Is it just me, or are his eyes WAY out of proportion? It makes him look almost like a disfigured cyclops when he blinks like that.
@aigomorla I think it's not that she knew he was OP but from earlier chapters we learned that she know something was really off about him thanks to the only skill they could see plus the reports she probably got from his trainer. But yeah her being so harsh seems more like a "what's expected of her" and not what she wants to considering she is quite happy with the current turn out.
Okay, readers. The mother is not bad. She is a noble in a kingdom where your [skill] decides everything. She is also very aware of her son's power. The appraisal is pretty straight forward; [Godly level Accomplished - Proof of Completion] *This soul will not grow any further. Now, who in their right mind would assume this person is trash if they saw that appraisal? The issue isn't the mother, but the kingdom and their value of [skill]s among the nobility. It is assumed that if Soma's true potential were revealed to the public with no [skill], the kingdom may try to manipulate him by putting pressure on his family. Or the very concept of [skill]s being the factor of one's livelihood in the kingdom may be called into question. It may even start a revolution. Not a good idea to make him a poster boy for the family when you're trying to end a long war between humans and demons while also trying to thwart the schemes of a more malevolent faction in your enemy's territory. All while holding the front lines between the two nations.
If that alone isn't enough to convince you, look at how his mother reacted when she came to the realization that Soma reignited Camilla's spark to fight. She said with a smile "It's quite ironic that Soma would heal that which I had broken." Meaning, even though Camilla felt guilt about the past between her and Soma's mother, she also felt responsible for Camilla's current state. Don't just read through chapters, understand them. Context is important. You want to see how bad things could have gone for Soma, read Kuro No Souzou Shoukanshi. His family locked him in a dark, damp dungeon and fed him garbage simply because his hair and eyes were black. But Soma's parents not only kept him, but gave him the freedom to choose for himself how to live. Personally, I was more disappointed in the younger sister's treatment of him after the appraisal.
And regarding him being erased from the family registry, later on, his parents enter him again with the same name, just younger as a son from his father and a mistress so to excuse why he was "never appraised" when he was smaller.
People like XNovalX and TTX are being obtuse. As if they're vociferously looking for reasons to hate the mother. Some people are too prideful to admit they made a mistake. So they will double down or even triple down.
@TTX he didn't get any achievements, it all went to the axe teacher girl, MC is still a nobody who is under the radar atm and can still do w.e he wants
@Digi-Lib I'm starting to get annoyed by these people who seemed to have not read the series correctly and understood why the good mom did what she did lmao readings hard for some people I guess
