Seemingly because he went broke or went into debt and the princess had to bail him out I think, probably also how he's "fallen off" the hero path. But given how this entire story has gone by she's probably still madly in love with him or something.

Wow this was a bit of a throwback, forgot all about it considering the one year time gap. I hope it stays consistent since it looks like we are up to six manga volumes.

As for the chapter, of course somehow he'd end up basically engaged to the demon lord's daughter. Just needs to take and find that right step to get back into the swing of things.
