This reads like the author either read a chapter of Kunst des Fechtens and decided to include a footwork opening and Gayszlen to the battle narration.

I'm not even mad.

Protagonist says something extremely uninspiring and unmotivating,
The other characters, for some reason: being touched.

Quite an anime moment. That felt like it was hard to translate, as it made no sense to me.

Well, originally some of that dialogue isn’t even supposed to be addressed to anyone, it’s supposed to be her muttering to herself as she approaches Garm. And my point was more so that everything before that scene didn’t do a good enough job of setting up the climax and the framing of the scene felt off, not that the dialogue was especially different.

Anyways, here’s the fan translation of that section from the WN:

“……It’s time, I guess. After all, I told him, to leave it to me, right?”

Now was the time.

Windfield started moving quietly. Without an ounce of hesitation, she walked towards Gram.

She had steeled herself.

“What?”

Gram stopped and was on guard. A woman was approaching him without taking any stance. There was nothing more suspicious than this.

“Well, it doesn’t matter. It’s just, I’ll be, a bit lonely. Maybe, I wanted to give him, one last greeting.”

“……? ”

Laughing with a smile, she spoke those words. Gram felt puzzled, not understanding the meaning of those words.

“Spirits, you see, can become invincible for a short while, by burning their very existence. About a minute, was it? In that time, I will kill you three and rescue Silvia-san and Eko-san. That, is my, responsibility.”

Windfield’s worries were, unfortunately, right on the spot. Therefore, she tried to take responsibility by using her trump card.

There were several other paths, but at this moment and at this time, this was the best one.

Was it the difference in values? The difference she had on her outlook about life and death?

If everything can be settled with just one life, I’ll gladly give mine. Windfield was that kind of spirit.

“This is the solution. With this, it’s done. There will be no issue except that I’ll be gone. A good ending, right?”

Muttering with a grim expression, she held a hand over her chest.

At the place where the human heart was located, also lied the source of life of the spirits.

And she was going to destroy ‘it’. An extremely easy, and equally scary method.

“Bye-bye――”

The next moment.

Just as Windfield was saying those parting words towards the missing Second.

Some of it reads a little awkward because of how extremely literal the translator is, but I think you can kinda get the point from this.

It’s crazy to me that just reading the web novel text directly had more emotional build up compared to what happened when reading that same scene in the manga. Agreed with how the manga approached this really felt wrong. A rare miss from this one.

Thanks for dropping the web novel text here!

That motivational speech was ass, like who would get cheered up by those words? It sounds like random emobabble.

Holy shit thank you so much for picking this up.

What a goddamn cliffhanger this was left on. So…the two were actually really that in trouble. Pretty nuts they almost got taken out. And Winfield was gonna explode for the love of the game. Man, the way the mangaka portrayed the entire thing felt like there wasn’t really that much of an emergency.

Second showing up and slicing the big guy so easily was classic. And Anko being there is even more of a stomp. He didn’t even pull out Angolmois.

Thanks again for the translation!!
Agreed, this probably was better set-up and described in the novel material.
The adaptation really dropped the ball ;-;

Been a while since I read this, but I was under the impression that Winfield was supposed to be male but with androgynous looks? :pepehmm:
or it could just have been translation issues
Winfield is whatever (s)he wants to be and can change their body.
I guess she likes Second-san enough she'd prefer being a girl tho (for now), lol.

...I think it's cute Winfield calls Second "the best strategist" simply because he knows small losses are better to win a war, avoid local optimums to search for global optimums, and all that. Winfield seems better, but Second just has more experience over all. Second probably played plenty of other RTS games in his time as well, anyways.
