He is not that bright of a kid eh, but still the verbal contract say "wont be able to use the advance magic you've learned" how did it become "only able to use beginner magic"?
Probably just the quirk of how Japanese does adjectives. Most situations where a translator is forced to change a line for English are when Japanese loads adjectives onto the object of a sentence. It's probably less specifying exactly what kind of advanced magic he can't use, and more specifying that it's exactly the same level of magic he's learned so far, as opposed to some different tier or whatever.

this guy seriously paid the price of his talent... to extend the duration of low level spells... He's useless as far as firepower goes, but extremely useful for things like quality of life. Not sure if that's really any better.

Bro really decided to run away from his master and exchange all his talent for his ability. He didn't even bother to negotiate the contract and just went through with it. He is lucky he got a useful ability out of it but what a waste.
Also shouldn't loss of talent really not stop him from learning and using advanced magics? Unless magic here in this world is tightly tied to talent.

People with no talent can't do difficult things. Not just any moron can be a brain surgeon.

A moron who wants to be a brain surgeon can if he really wants to and work towards learning how to be one, no? They won't learn as fast as a person talented to be a brain surgeon and may not be as good as them in the end, but that doesn't mean people with no talent are just on a dead end no matter how much they try.

So… he’s a high INT low WIS character.

Should have discussed with his mentor on why she didn’t recommend making a pact. And what if any alternatives are.
Could have done proper research on pact making and the possibilities/repercussions.
Could have been more specific on what he exchanged and planned for ways to compensate what he would lose.
Etc. etc.

But hey he is/was a kid, intelligent kids (or those who think they are) tend to end up doing things that are unwise to get to their goals ASAP. I guess that side is somewhat realistic.

No. You do realize you need a minimum level of intelligence to do things, right? If your IQ is under 83, the Army can't legally take you; because after a century of Intelligence testing, they've determined there's nothing they could possibly have you do that wouldn't be absolutely counterproductive.

I repeat: The Army, the very picture of an ever-growing organization that'll take anyone it possibly can, whose members' only directive is "Shut up, and do what you're told", has decided there are people that are so stupid, they're better off losing out on the manpower.

Which is easier?: Brain Surgery, or following orders?
They won't learn as fast as a person talented to be a brain surgeon and may not be as good as them in the end, but that doesn't mean people with no talent are just on a dead end no matter how much they try.
That's exactly what it means. They don't even have "Fuck it. I'll join the army" as a last resort. Also "May not be as good as them in the end" is not a line you want to hear about your surgeon before going under.

All his combat spells are long, long-term DOTs now, did you not see his security system? He's been keeping the monster population around that town in check for like five years, by himself.

Doesn't change the fact that he was an arrogant dumbass regardless of the outcome. Totally took any sympathy I had for MC early on out the window. My guy took "don't look a gold-plated golden egg laying gift unicorn in the mouth" to a whole new level because of his arrogance. He just got lucky.

Man, I just see people hating on the mc I'll just have to chip in.

+MC is orphan, everyone calls him useless (important)
+Hot elf takes him in, becomes strong
+Wants to become even stronger, makes pact with devil (hollow)
+Devil said the more you pay, the better the pact
+Got a mysterious devil that demands his remaining potential (just a level below than taking his soul)
+This gotta be good shit
+Comes this little guy, baphomet guy said he's useless
+Flashback everyone said he's useless before, gotta back this little guy, takes the pact anyway
+Adventurers said his skill is useless because not enough boom boom, but not realise it's wayyy useful outside battle. Imagine using Holy Bottle but it lasts the whole game. Like casting Estoma and it never wears off, you can fucking sleep in dungeons.
People literally wants to sell pocket aircond with his power.

I'd say his mistake is trying to be an adventurer. If he becomes a merchant and sells eternal lamps, heating and fridge he's already bathing money.

Y'all calling him idiot has the same level of IQ of the in-universe idiots. Everyone wants big dakka but nobody realises how useful electric-free all year around, almost no maintenance electric fence, covering the whole county to boot. Also there's this whole manga genre of "useless guy but OP when he changes field", haven't you guys learned by now?

You're confusing the order of events for some reason. He was given a price, accepted the price, and then the dice were thrown.
A stupid bet is still a stupid bet even if it happened to pay off.

"If it is stupid but it works, it isn't stupid"
Also it's a pact with devils, it's hella stupid, in this case it's better to pay well in the first place than cheap out and get stupid deal. You're thinking too deep you circle back to stupid.
