OK, listen, I would comment on how inaccurate it is for the American Hugger to be a thing....but I'm an American and I've hugged strangers before. Tho I did get permission, I am definitely this trope.

My God, Emily the Boy-Killer came to life. 🤭

Poor Iiko... Sensei's delusions are really starting to rub off on her.

I love and hate at the same time, how Japanese think, that being this clingy is normal in "western world". No one hugs you if you're not close friends, not to tell about kissing other person for a greeting. And even hugging is rather "reserved" for more mature people - I've never seen in my life girl/boy hug as a mean to great each other in high school - where, let's be honest, kids are most susceptible to all kind of "misunderstandings" between each other, when it comes to relation with opposite sex.
I hugged a lot of girls in high school and it really depends on the person and how comfortable they are with you. I did know this one girl who would hug people at the very first meeting but she was insanely extroverted and I wouldn’t consider that normal behavior at all.

Everytime I hear America in a manga I assume they're talking about Paraguay

It's fun to see how the American stereotype is a girl with German/Nordic appearance and Mediterranean/Latino personality. Like two parts of American ancestry you don't really find in the same person.
quite the melting pot if you will :pacman:

I grew up in the Midwest US and hugging was limited to family and romantic partners. Then I moved to California where EVERYONE HUGS. Coworkers, friends of both sexes, people at parties I’d only met once before. It took a lot of getting used to.

Hmm, I can see disliking shrimp or video games but both?

Hmm, I can see making a friend wear a hairstyle but a crush?

Hugging people you just met isn't really a thing in burgerland, but I'll dap up and hug the fellas I haven't seen in a long time.

Maybe the hugging on-first-meeting is a girl thing, cause I've certainly had a couple girls I've met go for that.

American hugger? I thought Americans were pretty serious about their 'personal bubbles' - though I guess with how with hardcore the Japanese are about distance and status, even that much must be a cultural shock.
I'd say the more stereotypically touchy foreigners would be Western and Mediterranean Europeans with their close personal contact and air-kisses. Soviet politicians also used to be infamous for exceptionally warm greetings with bear hugging and actual smooching.

it might depend but i swore i saw some semi-autobiographical stuff about some male students that weren't necessarily dating/closeted being affectionate with hugs and even holding hands but that might've been before high schooler age

Hugging friends is nice, my group of friends were affectionate huggers/chill enough to even sit in each others laps (surprisingly we never got in trouble for that at school tho i think i sat on more girls laps than boys /we weren't all making out with each other during even for the ppl that were dating lol), but i wouldn't necessarily hug someone within a first meeting

I never understood that hairstyle, feels like it'd be ideal to shave it all the way off if ur gonna fight tho i wonder if it was comfortable or whatever lol

OK, listen, I would comment on how inaccurate it is for the American Hugger to be a thing....but I'm an American and I've hugged strangers before. Tho I did get permission, I am definitely this trope.

One acquaintance i had in our school had a guy that'd hold up a free hugs sign every friday i imagine he hugged more strangers/classmates he didn't know but i'd be more comfortable with that in a school setting or even convention environment as opposed to like just hugging like a stranger stranger
