There are least 5 better ways to prevent this cop based crime. At least in this situation assaulting a police officer was not it. One he could've waited till they attempted to rape her before stabbing the shit out of them. Two he could've prevented the officer from entering her home by acting like he lives there. Three if the rape did happen, its not as if they can kill her to shut her up. The report is in the books or whatever, so if she reported a rape its gonna look bad for the officer. It would've been more interesting if he found them raping her, he killed one of their partners, and he was arrested for rape and double murder.

I see your argument, but I think the author went with this route so that the characters that misunderstood their situation could fully see and understand how narrowminded they were. Like, the woman that was an "attempted rape victim" and "mother figure" will realize that while her love of the mc might have been geniune, her trust in him was minimal likely due to his job compared to the police man's and hero's. Same thing for the former fiancé/saintess; her love for him was dear and everlasting even after the breakup, but the brainwashing society enforced believing that cops and heroes can do no wrong lead to a cop and a hero doing wrong, and an innocent dude was used as a scape goat.

There is so much depth to this story that one can only see once they've really looked into it and are able to see parallels to either shared experiences, or learning/hearing about stories with similar lead ups and outcomes.
