Nana got a different staff it seems.

So she did. I didn't pay close-enough attention to the difference in shapes of the head.
So then - I guess my updated "hypothesis" is that the mage who handed the staff to Nana gets blamed, obfuscating Babalus' involvement at the outset.

That also paints the interaction between Nana and that mage in a different light - if she was one of those who had disparaged Nana at the start, then if Nana is found innocent of doing the Miasma Thing herself, now it looks like those who maligned her before are resentful of her growing popularity and seeking to punish/obstruct her - and the mage-in-question who gave her the staff would come under immediate fire.
Knight Alice still knows that Babalus had a staff covered in miasma, and she'll likely be made aware that a staff emitting miasma was used in this ceremony (assuming she wasn't there already); so hopefully she speaks up about what she'd encountered beforehand, if only to get the heat off of Nana and the hapless delivery mage and get an investigation rolling.

Everything else I'd said before would still stand, though, I think.

Well spotted, and a plausible prediction for how things go. I'll add that even if Knight Alice mentions "Hey I saw Babalus bring in a Miasma staff earlier, but she claimed it was for research," that won't be the nail in the coffin for Babalus. The power of lying through your teeth will extend to anyone who challenges Babalus, or Eldora.

What I think will happen next is that Nana will use the "power of yuri scissoring" (Props for this phrase) to save Eldora. That act will go a long way towards challenging the "powering of lying like a scheming noble."
I fully expect Luliam & Nana to successfully save Eldora - the only caveat, is that everyone there would see Nana as a suspect, and would step in to prevent her trying to help out of fear she'd try to 'finish the job', or something.

If I had to actually guess at the sequence of events - The more serious direction, would be

- Nana getting forcibly separated from Luliam, then an investigation, while Babalus runs interference to keep Alice from sharing what she knows with the 1st Princess

- Eldora is left injured, but makes "a miraculous recovery" under Babalus' care (maybe Daichi as well), and then either 1) proceeds with the plan she's got going with Babalus, or 2) takes advantage of the chaos to gain a further advantage for the throne.

- Nana, despairing and kept in isolation, is confronted by Daichi, but manages to convince her that Nana didn't do anything, and that the staff went haywire. Daichi would likely be the most effectively convinced, since she has saintly magic and could probably tell/know that Nana can't just go flinging miasma everywhere, and also that she's not the kind of person who would maliciously attack either Luliam or Eldora.

- Daichi plays messenger, and ends up interacting with Alice, which kicks off the covert "unofficial" investigation into Babalus. Nana is eventually released, reunites with Luliam, and they confront Eldora about her part in all of this, while things continue to spiral in the chaos that was created.

From there I can't really make a guess, but I suspect things are going to get bad for Nana & Luliam and that Eldora will maybe not be immediately healed, and her injury will be paraded about as an excuse to further tarnish Luliam's claim to the throne by virtue of "an uncontrollable Saint partner".

And it'll take the concerted effort of multiple people (Miko the Mage, Daichi, Alice, Luliam, maybe one or two other mages who used to bully Nana & Luliam but have switched sides). What would be even more interesting, is if Babalus was conspiring with an outside entity, but she gets doublecrossed and found badly injured (I assume not dead; but who knows), and that lets things fall into place from there as the focus goes external and we find out all of this was a larger plot by malicious forces to sow discord in the kingdom by splitting things down the middle between the two princesses vying for the throne.

But that's me going way off into the weeds over "what might happen", so I don't expect to be accurate whatsoever.

I don‘t think anyone who actually knows Nana, as most of the mages do, would suspect her for a moment.

I also think Luliam was the intended target. If Babulus thought Eldora was the type to use underhanded methods to snatch the throne for herself, it’s doubtful she‘d predict the possibility that Eldora would risk her own life to save someone else, let alone her only rival. She’ll certainly still try to salvage it by trying to paint Nana as a villain, but again, she‘s not good at reading or predicting people, so I suspect it will work out as well as her other schemes so far.

I'm sorry it's just so funny that the knight is called Alice Nash, thats such a compsci major name
I was wondering why the name Alice Nash reminded me of something, it's also the name of John Nash's wife.
And I suppose Alice and Nash show up in various compsci fields

In I'm glad that we got more perspective of Eldora and Daichi. Eldora seemed distant than an actual A-hole while despite being the more gifted one, Daichi never demean Nana at any chance

Interesting that the staff didn't come directly from Daichi but through that mage who looked uncomfortable and may have just used the previous rudeness as a reason for her current unease. Chief mage or someone else could have forced her to infect the staff.

I cant believe that Babulus actually tried to literally attack the princess publicly through the staff. Hopefully Alice will come forward immediately before Nana is accused of being the attacker. Tho i wouldnt think it could be solved that easily or fast so i imagined Nana will be accused wrongfully.

at the same time - this paints Nana in a very bad light, and could easily be used by the 2nd princess as a rallying moment to bolster her own faction's influence via sympathy points.

Daichi wielded the staff immediately before, and nothing happened. Then Nana "the Powerless Saint" touched it and it went haywired and fired on the 1st princess, who was saved by her sister.

Even if this wasn't all "according to plan" (which, we saw #2 tell off Babalus before when the mage was conspiring about ways to cheat #2 into power), it's a fantastic excuse to further malign Nana's position within the Court and draw more people toward herself and Daichi when it comes to backing for Queenship.

I also have to wonder...where did Babalus get a miasma-filled staff, that's ostensibly an important item in its own right for something like a Saint Ceremony as it relates to royal rituals? Is Babalus herself the mastermind behind that, or -- as Alice feared -- is someone else behind her as well, who can control miasma, and is pulling Babalus' strings? If Babalus ends end up being a scapegoat to "tie off loose ends", then the plot continues to grow deeper with agents still moving in the shadows.

But I'm honestly excited that this is getting so deep and involved with the intrigue of the kingdom and going far beyond just "saint and princess go traipsing about curing the world with the power of yuri scissoring". The latter wouldn't have been bad, but it would have been rather...I guess "shallow". This is much more interesting to me, at least.
Its not the same staff. Look carefully
