Their personalities are quite different. The golden eye is calm (he do what is required but nothing unnecessary), a bit prideful and intelligent.
Tis one is clueless and slow (he lets things coming to him and only react then).

A good example of difference: the golden eye would have killed the giant (when he was coming to the magic school) as soon as possible, while the mc here just let the giant comes and even let it make the horse faint. The mc doesn't look to do the most efficient thing, he take everything at his rythm.
