I really hope those two don’t end up together. Ai clearly doesn’t respect Kon or the time they had. She’s been extremely indifferent to Kon’s feelings for a long while now, everything is about the ex. And the fact that she doesn’t even respect Kon enough to properly break up just rubs me the wrong way.

I want Kon to learn from this and move on, to live for herself. Ai needs to sort out her own life without dragging Kon along.

That would explain her tears: She likes (probably even loves) Kon, but she just can't do anything about her obsession. She wants to get to the bottom of this whole deal with her ex 'cause of that obsession, and she can't do anything about it

I may be wrong and too simple, but I believe it wasn't Ai necessarily that broke up with Kon but Kon breaking up with Ai. Kon decided to live life the way she wanted and to live for herself unlike Ai who chose to live her life for Kaede. Kon's clothes at the end of the chapter felt to me like a statement that she wasn't going to let anyone else's whims, whether it's her mother's or Ai's dictate how she should live. When Ai said she was coming back definitely Kon knew it was a lie and accepted it for what it was. The end. But, again, I could very well be wrong.

And even how rational that decision was.. people would still hold onto things that would hurt them until they can't no longer hold it...

They're just hurting each other.
