Yeah that's true. Even in the original work by HP Lovecraft, everyone is suffering from sleep talking of the main horror's hiberation in it's underwater city. It could be dreaming of sitting in paradise surrounded by it's family while saying, "Mama! You're back! I missed you so much" and everyone else hears it as "!@##@$@$@#$@#$?" and has horrible anxiety, depression commits acts of violence and evil from something that is originally so wholesome.

Just now noticed that Cole's right eye isn't normal. Maybe he sacrificed it for Ciara or something and seeing how much he's willing to do for her sake fell in love. Hard to say without more backstory.
