Yeah i dont really know what lin wenjing was thinking here. Like obvs she was feeling jealous of the director being close to another woman and thinks that the director will feel jealous as well, so she has to do the date. But if xiao ran is truly intent on giving up on lin wenjing then she wouldnt need a date and if she is not intent on giving up, a date will only embolden her. Besides, she specifically asked her to "pretend to be her lover" so you know shes gonna ask for a kiss 100%. And if you refuse that request because you already have a partner that you love(even if you are unwilling to tell said partner) shell insist that you didnt actually give her what she wanted so she doesnt have to back of and we are back at the start.
I cant tell what xiao ran is actually thinking but i hope that at the end of this "date" xiao ran will actually back off and maybe give Zhou Hong a chance(even though zhou hong could do so much better) and that lin wnejing is finally gonna be open about her feelings for the director.
