All these people talking about possible mantis GF, no one talking about how this guy ratted out mantis GF without even confirming it with her first. That’s how you get your girl vivisected, my dude – not cool.

If we take what he says at face value, he doesn't know for sure that she isn't human. So this isn't a situation like with our main characters, where she was open about her nature from the beginning. And they haven't been together long enough for her to trust him enough to reveal herself to him.

So he just knows that his new girlfriend has a major secret she is keeping from him, and he apparently had enough evidence to guess that she might not be human, which also probably means that she's dangerous.

Given all of that, it is perfectly reasonable for him to go to a trusted friend for advice.
