For who is wondering what the chapter 40 horror story is, there are some manga that covered it:

The linked one is a remake/reboot/sequel of the said story made from a different artist, sadly it was unlucky and only lasted around 40 chapters, I got the raws and looked over it, personally I believe that it could have gone for years and just got released on the wrong moment or the wrong magazine.
Is a urban legend that isn't used much and only saw it cited in a couple manga, and I've read many of them, is possible that is because the original one left a mark and other mangaka don't try to touch it, the remake after all was made in collaboration with the original author.
Anyway you get the idea of the future journal curse from that couple translated chapters.
