this honor rule to drop a series when it gets an official TL makes no sense to me. Never did.
I kinda get it when they catch up, assuming it's not unnecessarily region locked. But when the official works start from 1 after being 50+ in, it does leave you twiddling your thumbs for a while, forgetting details in the meantime 😅

What!? No! I look forward to visiting you guys every week. D: What do you mean this has to end?
Are you gonna stop working on this now or in September?
I will not stop translating, but many manga with official translations have been removed from Mangadex due to copyright issues... They only use us to promote manga

It's no more an honor rule: if a publisher contacts mangadex nowadays and says "we gave you an official tl now you can't post fan translations anymore", then you can't post fan translations anymore. The only reason why some fan translations still exist on this site while there is also an official english translation is due to the fact the publisher didn't contact mangadex (and if this one will be uploaded on mangaplus then you can be sure that they will contact mangadex)
damn. Well, ig i'll have to hold on with the spanish TL. Sucks for anglo-only readers.

@Padrepi0 covers it. Its more than an honor rule, its a liability thing. Scanlation is a grey area where you can argue its not harming business because there is no official product to compete against. Once there is an official TL,its now much less of a grey area and nearly straight piracy, especaially when they simupub.

I get TLs who don't want to cross the grey line at all, but it always made more sense to me for TLs to wait for the official release to catch up because there's been a number of long-running mangas that get an official TL but the official TL is either slow and the manga ends before the official catches up or stops completely before catching up.
But they are providing a service for public at large and so I'm in no place to tell them how to do it and will respect their decisions.

Official translation... I can only wonder how long THAT would take for a chapter or how cringe it'll be with inserted post-modernisms. And now with Mangadex moving to be a "legit" company ala Crunchyroll (having applied to be one in UK of all things) they really do have to comply with corpo requests when the corpos ring their bell.

Well, in ye olden tymes, fan translations were not considered a paying job or a way to stick it to the man. They were seen as a necessary evil, making an english version available where otherwise none would exist.

That attitude has largely fallen by the wayside these days as the fandom has gotten larger and more casual. Many folks are now "Please subscribe to our Patreon so we can afford to buy comics and pay translators!" or "Screw anyone with the audacity to try and do this legally, pirates are awesome!", and the "fan" part is a token afterthought. But a few still honor the old ways.

This is not to say legal releases are always good. There are times that the fans need to step in simply to fix horrors wrought. I can think of a few near to my heart that were horribly butchered through incompetence, if not outright malice. But for the oldschool, the preference is still for the fan translations to step back once a legal one is available and see what happens.

FML, I only recently discovered this one, started to enjoy and thus to binge it and now it will be unavailable again. This sucks so much...

That's the thing, most people are willing to pay for a netflix-of-the-past type of deal but I am not gonna buy into a dozen different sides ( and still miss half of what I am reading) while their sides are mostly absolutely dogshite in terms of quality when you compare them to fan-made sides like mangadex.

Reserve that "I'm quitting" speech for the day that Mangadex is actually contacted by the official publisher, Michika. No point in dropping the ball when you're still the only person on the court.

Who the hell said I'm leaving? I'm letting you know to support the official publication to give the author money. You'll have to kill me if you try to take down any of my chapters.

You're literally the only person working on this series who bothers to check their own grammar, why would I try to get you taken down?
Also, killing you would be a waste--you're a bit too smart to be disposable, hah!

It's a way of addressing the company that publishes manga.

If I wanted to send a message, I'd show up during a quarterly meeting and remind them that they keep losing contracts due to T-san's choice of belligerence against their would-be authors--trust me, it's not remotely worth your time or mine to do a meaningless report on Mangadex.

You're also not exactly breaking any rules, and there's other people who's actual job it is to make sure you aren't, so...
